So let me get this right, for the sake of clarity...

The Underdale stretch bailiff offers to set up a fish-in for any interested anglers who might like to have a bash at Underdale, by way of promoting the use of the venue he so clearly cares about, and is shot down because he mentions the slight possibility that the attendees might want to have a sweep for the biggest fish caught on the day. Then the usual protagonists get stuck in and a slanging match arises. So the bailiff decides he's had enough of the petty bickering and decides to withdraw the offer of guiding visitors to his stretch, but the bickering continues.

Grow up gentlemen please, and act your age not your hook size.

BailiffDale, I've never fished Underdale but would be keen to give it a go one weekend when I haven't got a match. No interest in specimen barbel or anything of the sort. If it wants to eat my bait and pulls my float under, I'm more than happy to catch it, whether it's a dace or a confused puddle carp. At the end of the day it's a day's fishing, a day's relaxation and enjoyment of being by the waterside.
