Thanks m8
It didn't rain but it sure was cold in the shade with the wind hitting me
I didn't expect to land the carp considering I had a canal rig on (18 hook 2lb hook length)
I was happier to see that there was tench being caught
Good to see everyone who come!

Nice one Keith for posting the results,
And i have to say again , well done on organising this fantastic club ..
i was so pleased to see such a great turnout., everybody chatting and getting to know each other a little better . lets hope this continues throughout the year..
as for the results its a shame a couple of blokes DNW but like you said it was a hard day with everyone knowing it was going to be won with 1 fish, not taking anything away from charlie , he hooked one and managed to land it so fair play to him..
but as the results show ,its fishing so anything can happen on the day ..
Stew1955 won the first match at the lock inn & DNW at this match.( if they aint there you carnt catch em )
just shows everybody got a chance on any given day....
a couple of beers in the pub after was a particularly good touch. Very sociable.

Thanks again

Many thanks to all involved in organising and helping out at the match.
Nice to meet up and meet people.
Congratulations to the winner.
My dad enjoyed the day greatly and could have finished a clear fourth place .....if it wasn't for the mid match bacon sandwich break crying
The tench appear to be growing on quickly.
We are both looking forward to the next match.

Re: b.a.a. d'anglers match 1 of 5, nordley pool 4

Morning all

Sorry its taken me a while to add my four penneth to this link, too damn busy a life at the moment.

It was as predicted a difficult match with close in pond weed and overgrown tree growth along the margins for all of us all to contend with. Maggot proved to be the successful bait and the three of us who didn't take maggots but intending to target carp with bigger baits suffered dearly on the day as not one of us had a bite.

The corner furthest from the car park along the bottom/outlet damn end of the pool was where Charlie had his winning carp of 4lb plus to win the match. Reg and I fished the middle pegs that end too and congratulated him for proving to us that there were some fish that end of the pool after all (LOL). Surprisingly there was none of that horrible pond weed that end but then it was 5 to 6 feet deep 3 or 4 mtrs out and shaded all day long from the Sun.

The corners at the other end of the pool proved the most prolific for the silvers etc and 2nd and 3rd places came from them. How BIN (Chris) coped with that long willow branch hanging over the water directly in front of him is beyond me and its no surprise that he lost a couple of carp because of it. Thanks for the Master Class BIN. I could see you from my peg the other end of the pool.

The car park side fished better than the opposite side. Both had pond weed issues but the problem was worse for those fishing the far side as bank side trees and shrubs added to the problem.

Jealous that I hadn't had any of those little tench on the day I returned this Sunday just gone armed with maggots this time and fished a peg in the middle of the car park side of the pool. I was The Lone D'Angler again but I had a relatively good a session. 55 fish for 4lb 13oz in 5hrs. Some of the tench were knocking on for 4oz so they have more than doubled in size in the last year. If they do the same again over the next 12 months and that pond weed issue isn't resolved, they'll be difficult to land next year when they are half pounders. I fished a 6lb bottom on an 18 elastic purely so that I could pull out of the weed which is so well rooted in, even when I had to pull at the line by hand to try and free my rig from it, it never shifted. Luckily I didn't lose a single hook, but I did lose a few fish.

Looking forward to meeting up again and this time having a pint with you after the match (had to dash home to force feed tablets into my poorly cat last time - sorry, but I did have a few bites of sorts after all that day).

Keep on fishing despite the adverse conditions being chucked at us.

Re: b.a.a. d'anglers match 1 of 5, nordley pool 4

a good comprehensive write up there stew , i didn't realize on the day that you didn't have any maggots, you could of had some of mine i always take far too much bait .. and that goes for any of the lads , your more than welcome to share any of my bait or tackle if its going to help you on the day.. as for the growth of the tench , well its common knowledge that tench are by far the slowest growing fish in all our waters. its true that they will double in size over the first 3 years but once they hit that pound mark its like the breaks go on . from 1 pound up to 2 pound can take up to 5 years ..
so if your lucky enough to land one of 5 pound plus you can guarantee thats a very old fish, 10 years plus..
looking forward to ladyham next month . we can have a catch up and a beer there mate ..

Hi Bin

Thanks for the offer but I doubt that maggots would have caught me much where I was pegged and as for the next match at Ladyham, having watched Tom Pickering's You Tube Video about how you, as part of the England Squad, fished for Gobies in France recently, you'll need every maggot you've got on you if you're gonna win the match. I recon that if you fish the same way, you might manage 300 plus Bleak for 5lb (LOL). If anyone can do it, you can. smiling
