Re: wasperton

Wouldn't advocate straight through rigs in any situation for barbel, but do believe in simpler the better. Perhaps the best advice for the WA in the summer is keep the hemp going in, fish late and keep casting down to a minimum, if bream are are a problem, go big pellet or boilie on the hook, 20mm not too big. I found if the Bream come, the Barbel will follow.

Re: The Best venue for Barbel...Question!

Trouble is one is never enough I suppose, but have made barbel my target species for the last 15 years or so, which I admit is just too long in neglecting the other species in particular Roach and Tench.

Barbel are under pressure at the moment, what with Otter and other preds including poachers, so as I said any barbel is a bit of a prize and that last thing we want to do is alert locations to those with a less sporting instinct than perhaps you and I.

However it is difficult to catch a barbel to order, but I reckon if you are up for it we could manage a few without much effort, I would be more than happy to try and help.

Send me some contact details if you like and perhaps you could help me with a Tench or two?

Re: The Best venue for Barbel...Question!

Do we as anglers need to know the best venues, bait etc to catch Barbel? Surely half the fun is seeking out these things for ourselves? Not saying we have to be ultra secret, but don't think broadcasting info on the net is going to help anyone or anything.

Re: WIck

Fished it a couple ot times this season, both times just eel, a few roach are showing, but I am afraid that monster has a lot to answer for. When you consider the old 'beach' area was a local spot where kids and older kids could have a paddle and we sometimes could fish...all gone, and for why to supply 'green' fuel to the Community centre, the irony!!! The flow has increased so much you need 2 ounces of lead to hold bottom, with removing the rushes and the gravel bar it has wrecked spawning redds too.

Well done to all concerned who allowed this vandalism, I hope those that got 'bribed' by the greedy company to have it installed can hand on heart say it was for the better good of the community, I for one think it is not.

All for green energy but not at the cost of natural habitat, I lobbied against it, even pointed out that I saw a Salmon pass the weir a few years back, fell on deaf ears, beware these Green meddling think they know whats good for us they don't.
