Birmingham Worcester canal at Kidderminster.

Lock number 16 is currently shut for rebuilding so there is no boat traffic on this section of the canal and the water is gin clear.
If anyone fancies a shot at lure fishing the canal, now's the time to do it.

Zander spread

We all know that zander are well established in the lower Severn and Avon but how far up these rivers have they got and are they now a viable target on any other BAA waters such as the canals?

I know a small zander was caught at Blackstone a couple of years ago and I've heard rumours of one being taken at Arley but otherwise, reports from the Severn above Worcester are very sparse. Does anyone know of any other middle Severn captures?

How about the associations canals?

Re: What do you want from the BAA

A little sense in the construction of rules and regulations would be nice.
For instance:

Rule C.4 (a) makes it against the rules to spin for chub and perch unless you have modified the lure so it has a single hook.

Rule C.7 means that I am fishing illegally if I stand in the middle of the river without the encumbrance of a landing net and unhook fish in the water or lift them in my hand and then immediately return them after unhooking.

Rule D.4 makes it against the rules to smoke - not that I do.

Re: Is a closed season needed?

No, absolutely not. I fish the rivers legally right through the coarse fishing closed season and the level of illegal fishing has to be seen to be believed, Many of the people fishing are removing fish for the pot, destroying the sport of those that pay to fish the river and unbalancing the ecosystem in the process.
Anglers and bailiffs on the bank are the only way to prevent this.
Inevitably, there are those that will talk about allowing the fish and the birds to breed in peace but fish that are actively spawning don't have any interest in feeding and as the commercials demonstrate so well, birds will find somewhere to breed even on the busiest of fisheries.
