Re: b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC Contest result from S-W Canal @ Hinksford Br 37-38 on 28/10/23

Really missed not being there yesterday, but congratulations to Charlie and all those who fished. The contests so far have all proved very tough, but actually very close which makes it interesting and competitive. Well done Reg for organising everything and look forward to joining you for the 2024 matches as I cannot make next week's either.

Re: b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC Contest 3 at Swindon on S-W Canal on 07/10/2023

Many thanks to Reg and the guys for the organisation and smooth running of yesterday's contest, it was most enjoyable and good to see a decent turn out in the pub. Please accept my apologies for the next two matches, I am away on holiday for these dates. Please put me down for 2024 series and I look forward to seeing you all in 2024 and trying to remember everyone's name.

Re: b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC contest #3 Staffs / Worcs Canal Br 39 - 40 Saturday 7th Oct 2023

Bit of information about Saturday's venue. Had a trot along canal tonight, from Kinver up to Swindon, Bridge 40 to have a look at match stretch as it must be 25 years since I last fished it. Stew has posted information about the fishing, but a few observations... An interesting section with quite a few features, certainly not as uniform as the Wolverley Section we fished. Below Bridge 40, the first 50m or so are quite featureless, just houses backing onto he canal. Then there is another stretch of about 50m, narrow, with a dense bed of big bullrushes that occupy pretty well all the far shelf. The rushes only stop when the water deepens as it enters the boat channel. There a few bays cut into the reed bed which look really good, and a few of you more intrepid anglers might want to push your pole into and amongst the reeds, so to speak. At the end of the reed bed the canal widens considerably for about 2 - 3 pegs, far bank trees have been cut back and there is a section of open water and a lot of width. Then a section with a few overhanging trees. The last 300 metres or so is quite uniform - no trees, just small "grassy" rushes on far side, but a decent width and rushes don't encroach far shelf which is very fishable. The guys pegging the stretch will find it interesting as there are several very attractive pegs that you would automatically fish on a pleasure session. Other good news - wide well-surfaced towpath and grass is quite short on all pegs - no need for a machete. The water had some colour, certainly not gin clear and we can expect a few boats as although canal is closed down at Wolverley, boats still travelling through section to Ashwood Marina and also on to Black Country canal network via Stourbridge Canal accessed at Stourton Basin. See you Saturday.

Hi Reg - can you please add my name to the list (Mick Grove). If you need any help with any aspect of the organisation, give me a shout. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Re: danglers at ladyham

Thanks Keith - look forward to seeing you when work permits. Thanks to Reg for taking over organisation - see you tomorrow. As a non-matchman, it's been great doing something different. I normally hate preparing gear, but this week I have spent hours sorting bait and rigs and leaving no stone unturned. All ready now to chuck my feeder rig up a tree first cast.
