Re: Mythe Pool - Elodea canadensis - Pondweed nightmare. Thanks for the heads up Reg, I was thinking of fishing Mythe this coming weekend, but may go somewhere else. I last fished there about 3 years ago on June 16th, the rivers were really low so I didn't bother trying for barbel and went to Mythe instead. At that time there wasn't really a problem with weed in the middle of the lake and managed a few decent bream on the day, so it sounds like it's a recent issue. Shame because it's a really nice place. I seem to remember a few years back something was added to the water at Uckinghall to control the weed. Re: the b.a.a. forum d'anglers a.c. is born ! Ha! That tin shack was just a piece of corrugated steel on 4 rickety posts. Though it did save me from a soaking once when I forgot my brolly. My favourite memory of that peg - I turned up for a session and realised I'd left my 3 pints of casters back home in the fridge. The only bait I had in my kit was 3 cans of sweetcorn. Fixed an open ended feeder crammed with groundbait and corn with 2 grains on a size14 hook. 1st cast I nearly lost my rod as a barbel tried to yank it in the river. Ended up with 10 barbel and 6 chub. I've since tried corn many times for barbel and not had a touch, just the odd chub. That's fishing eh? Posted on April 27, 2023 at 10:10 PM
