Hi Reg,

If you can put us both down to fish please.
You can put me (David) down to help with weighing in again if you get stuck, but if someone else wants to have a go that's fine.

Just sorting out my size 26 hooks and 8oz line from when I last fished a match at Wombourne / Swindon....many years ago when gudgeon and a two metre whip ruled, how things have changed since then.wink

See you on the day....

Hello Fellow d’anglers,
I have updated my original post the great news is that we now have 9 d’anglers that have committed to fishing the contest on the 7th October.

Thank you Rob & Dave, Brian & Dave, bin, Paul and Charlie for your prompt posts, and your desire to participate in the pegging and weighing and yes bin, it would be great if you can be on the bridge for the pegging out.

So with 3 weeks to the Contest, there is plenty of time for the remaining b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC members to post on here that you want to put your name on a peg at this contest on the Staffs / Worcs Canal between Bridges 39-40 on Saturday 07th October 2023

Keep on Fishing….

Hi Stew,
Thanks for confirming your attendance at the Contest on the 7th October, we look forward to seeing you there.

I am sure that some of us might want to pick your brains of your “Local Knowledge” on this venue.

Unfortunately we are still stuck on 9 Contestants, as Dave, my Brother in Law has now got to go into work that Saturday, but he assure me that he will be ok to attend the final 2 contests.

If you are reading this MartinKuhl, and that you posted before our last contest “that we had a great day at Ladyham”, which we did,
Would you like to join us at this Contest?

Keep on Fishing…

Hi Reg

As no one else has volunteered yet, put me down as Mr Fishy's weighing in partner please.

I'll pass on what knowledge I have to all of course, but as I fish the canal rather unconventionally I won't suggest any particular method or baits, after all that will depend on the conditions on the day and the features that each peg and D'angler has to offer. The first half of the section from the Br40 end was dredged a couple of years ago and is where the skimmers hang about, most of them small but the occasional 4lb fish comes out. Carp like to hang about up this end too. The last half of the section down towards Br39 end wasn't dredged and is the shallower end and a bit snaggy but I've found the better quality perch come from there. You'll catch small perch, roach, gudgeon etc all along the section whether fishing far shelf, boat swim or near shelf.

Further note, the Tow Path on this section is rather exposed to the weather, so if its a windy and wet day, its best to have the means to screw a brolly well into the tow path.

Cheers
Stewsmiling

Wow Stew
Thank you for you in depth summary of the S/W Canal Between Bridges 39-40.

This is so good of you to provide this information not just to our fellow club d’anglers, but to all BAA members that may be reading this post.

By all means your offer to assist Mrfishy in the Weighing-in is very welcome.

So for those of our b.a.a. forum d’anglers AC that have not yet put your names in the hat for a peg at Contest #3 on the Staffs / Worcs Canal on Saturday 7th October, then perhaps Stews summary of the stretch that we shall be fishing Bridges 39-40 May entice you to send your post in now.

Keep on Fishing…

Hi again

I forgot to mention parking facilities.

Reg has circled the parking facilities in red on his Google Image attachment above. Most of us will be able to park on/off road either on or near Br40, and there is over spill parking available to us anglers at the Community Ctr (which Reg has also circled in red). The entrance/exit to that car park is in Swinforge Way. Its best that any of us parking there use the bays adjacent to Swinforge Way, ie. those closest to the entrance/exit, that way leaving the spaces in front of the Hall free for anyone else who might want to use the Hall facilities that day.

The Green Man Inn is very close to the Hall, only Smestow Brook separates them and its walking distance from Br40 but it has a biggish car park if anyone prefers to use it. It'll be somewhere nearby to have a bevvy and a chinwag after. I've never had a pint in there myself so it looks like I'll be checking out what brews they have to offer this weekend as I fancy fishing Botterham (Br41-42) again for some proper skimmers.

Good info, all the best for the fishing at the weekend.

We will be able to draw a peg from the hat this time and both fish from that, as all the pegs are accessible and level.

Hi Reg

Looks like the Devil's Net is more or less cast but there's still one of our usual gang missing from the list at the moment.

I'm sure that Alan (AGWolves) will be wanting to join us, but its likely that he's still on Holiday at the moment which will explain why we haven't heard from him yet. Best to pencil him in I think.smiling
