Re: River SalwarpeI don’t think the cormorants have helped down there,I’ve seen the trees black with them from grimley opposite where it comes into the Severn

Re: River SalwarpeHi - I've fished here a couple of times in the last few years when Severn has been up and really struggled. Fished a number of different pegs and had the odd small fish, but agree that the river appears almost lifeless. My experiences certainly don't match what the BAA website describes, although these descriptions don't seem to be updated very often in response to changing circumstances. The canal (not BAA) is interesting and I spent a good 10 years fishing it very regularly in the early 2000s, mainly for the carp, before pollution and otters took their toll. At its best it was a stunning water where you could catch lots of big wild carp and not see another angler all season - one of my favourite waters, but haven't fished it now for a number of years.

Re: River SalwarpeThe last match I fished at Claines was 7/8 years ago. Fur & Feather so similar time of year. I was 2nd place with 2oz. So quite a depressing scene really. A lovely looking venue but not planning a return anytime soon. Hope the cormorant sightings are being reported via the on-line site.

Re: River SalwarpeYes I always report the sightings, despite it being quite a long drawn out process which might put a lot of people off. There is also an otter down there that is being spotted more and more often and as with the cormorants seems to be increasingly more confident.

Re: River Salwarpeit's a shame. I had some nice days down there, including a nice bag of roach one day one very mild March day, my dad was with me, he caught well too. The otters have been present for a while Stu, the Hawford carp puddles just above the bridge have suffered from otter predation, they've spent a fortune on fencing up there.

Re: River SalwarpeI’ve had matches at hawford or trevs pools as we used to call it,and the cormorants have been landing on the pools while we were still weighing in,seems we are fighting a losing battle with the otters and the cormorants

Re: River SalwarpeI've been fishing the salwarpe on and off now for 40years,my dad learnt me to fish on this little river in the 70s, guess it's allways been a bit temperamental but can remember some really good days in the past. One thing I have noticed is that it's really silted up now compared how it used to be when the big boats used to come up out of the Severn, some pegs you'd have 10ft in the bottom meadow, can't think of any natural venues that haven't been in decline over the last few years due to cormorants, otters and poaching.

Re: River SalwarpeFish the Salwarpe a fair bit have located good chub in the Hawford stretch in a certain area will always have a few fish up to about 4lb. Fishing pole & using a bait dropper with liq bread and caster. Its not easy fishing but there are still fish about.

Re: River SalwarpeOne of the things Ive found with this place if you dont catch in the first 30 min best bet is to move pegs. Sometimes the fish can be held up in just a couple of pegs. I dont fish it anymore to hit and miss better off fishing the canal if you want to catch a few fish.

Re: River SalwarpeJust to add, at this time of year I'm sure the river gets affected by road salt off the A449 when we get rain after a cold spell, there's all ways water running in by the bridge & the colour goes awful too.

Re: River SalwarpeSome interesting contributions to this thread. I may be tempted to make another visit before the season ends. The mobile approach does sound like a sensible line of attack. Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge.
