Does anyone know when this water is due to open again, I went there today but the lane was completely blocked by "gypsies/travellers" who informed me that it was private land, does anyone know if this is correct?

This is a shame as the Cotheridge water was an excellent venue with plenty of big chub and barbel and easy access right by the river.

Re: Cotheridge

You will be lucky to get a response from anyone from the BAA on this subject mate, I have been asking for mobtgs.
The gypsy gentleman in question isn't too bad and a couple of us just carry on past his caravan (itrlike a scene from Snatch).
It really is disappointing that no one in any official capacity wants to keep us up to date with the situation.
All the best and good luck if you go.

Hi Belsh,

Thanks for replying, I dont know if things have changed from when you last went but they have put up a gate and blocked the track with earth so you cant carry on down the track anymore. Looking on ordanance survey you could use the footpath from the sharp corner before you reach the BAA track and walk along the river to access but means carrying your gear down the hill and about a mile along the bank.

Re: Cotheridge

Hi, yeah the gate was there when I went, and the big pile of earth. i just asked him if it was this way to the river (it was a silly question as it obviously was) and climbed over it. When I came back the same way at the end of the evening the rest of the family and dogs were there and it was even more uncomfortable.
I think I found the alternative entrance last week. Does it go through The Haven fisherys land or have I got the wrong place? The trouble with going through this entrance would be its an awful long way from the old car park. Do you know if there is a way in on the other side of the carpark, that would be a better option in my opinion?

Hi Belsh,

Yes, I think thats right the footpath runs through the haven fishery but as you say its a long walk. Unfortunately the footpath at the top end of the fishery is even further away. There doesnt seem to be any other access.

Is there any news on the access to this fishery. It seems a shame to have lost probably the best stretch of the Teme that BAA have.

Re: Cotheridge

I spoke to John Williams about this issue last week as it is close to my heart as well - hope he doesn't mind me posting some info on here.
The main issue is the land owner in question is very frail and elderly and not well, and although the gypsies are effectively trespassing they claim they have permission to be there, and the owner obviously has other priorities at present being seriously ill. And so the situation with the current approach track is unlikely to change soon. John and the team have been investigating other means of access but nothing will probably be done until the close season.
So I guess we'll have to see what happens - here's hoping we get access back this season.
Of course we have access to the river still, it is just awkward finding somewhere to park the car and it is a long walk - I know I have done it a few times - and it is a bit scary going past the burnt out cars and barking dogs on chains.

Thanks Glenl,

I am glad that at least the BAA are looking into it. We will all have to keep our fingers crossed that another access point will be arranged. I for one dont fancy going past that encampment - a bit intimidating when you are are on your own!
