Paddle boarders

As a 'reformed canoeist' who always bought a licence through British Canoeing, paddle boarders are a bee in my fisherman's bonnet.

Not sure if anyone here knows this, but paddle boarders, canoeists and kayakers are required to have a licence to use the majority of waterways in England and Wales.

When I was a canoeist I always bought my licence, but I'll bet most don't have one, or even know that they need one. On the whole, paddlers of open (or Canadian) canoes probably do have a licence, but I doubt if many paddle boarders or kayakers do.

So unlike anglers, they contribute nothing to the upkeep of the very waters they enjoy.

I know I'm having a rant, smiling but I thought members might be interested - we can at least take the moral high ground if we ever get into an altercation with other river users.
