Re: John Flood Memorial / BAA Bailiffs at Ripple 5/10/23

Looks a good match, did the barbel come from anywhere near the shepherds hut , the broken down building ? Have many platforms/pegs been fixed ? The bream went a bit on our water on the Avon at Twyning. Colin Jew taking 157lb 8oz off peg 7 from the top.43 pegs above M5 Bridge at Bredon.. Shoaled up a tad as 7lb came 2nd.

Droitwich Spa AC match B'ham Worcs Canal Bridge 44 Navigation stretch 1st October 2023

The last in a series of matches for the club 2023. 1st October so the boat traffic, post school holiday shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately the Navigation pound, although holding a lot of water with the Black Prince boat works and associated mooring bay is still a relatively short pound, resulting in quite a bit of water towing, bit an excuse but there were only about half a dozen boats going through resulting in about 40 minutes disruption during the 5 hours ... so minimal really. Our match was won by ex-Cofton Hacket star ... Bob Evans who drew opposite the Polythene tunnel, using his favoured shell approach over towards the far side, about 10.5 Metres to take an early bream, Expecting a good net of bream Bob was disappointed as his next fish was a small zander that didn't count and the bream disappeared.. Bob persevered with his caster approach and added decent quality perch and roach to his winning net of 6lb 14oz 8drms. The next two weights were from adjoining pegs below and above the mooring bay, below the bay, 2 pegs above the bridge was consistent canal star Alan Henson who finished with an early and a late bream weighing a really close 6llb 12oz 2drm on maggot and worm, third on the other side of the wides 3 above the bridge had again an early then a late bream on maggot not quite as big totalling 4lb 7oz 4drm and away from the action some distance up towards the cables and next to the no fishing sign yours truly an early bream and a skimmer on bread punch 3llb 5oz 4drms.Looking at other canal results in the area quite a good day plus the expected and forecast rain held off, no wind and 20 deg C made proceedings for the day enjoyable. Being a Sunday we took advantage of parking by offices just below the bridge pass Navigation Inn over bridge 1st turning right, unfortunately not available during the week..It's been nice giving reports on our results ... our last for the year ...Enjoy your fishing on your future BAA venue matches.

Droitwich Spa AC Pershore RB Saturday 23rd September 2023

Well great weather today, no rain, no wind no frost .... bearing in mind the rain over the last week shocked to see the river is still unnaturally clearer than gin. We were lucky enough to fish the venue about 3 weeks ago when the temperature exceeded 30deg C ... Only difference today was a little more flow down the centre of the river. Several Pike enjoyed the clear conditions with strikes on chublets, skimmers even perch with large pike showing amazing speed and accuracy of strike on hooked fish reeled in at pace. Our winner today was Evesham top angler Gary Seadon making the most of his peg 2 down from the bridge just above the car park with a winning 9lb catch of roach, dace, perch and smalll chub to stick float / bolo float fished maggots in the fairly turbulent but crystal clear water about 11/2 to 2 rods out. 2nd at the opposite end of the length about 5 pegs below the far bank empty mooring spots was Browning West Midlands star Chris Ballard , fishing a waggler with maggots past the pulling mid river flow catching 5lb 13ounces and suffering excessive pike attacks, effectively costing him the match. Back up to the bridge peg 1 Rod Turner managed 3lb 15ounces of small fish again to stick float and maggot, just holding off Dennis Evans 3lb 8ounces from the peg above Chris Ballard. Others troubling the scales were Mike Adams catching perch remarkably close in considering the clarity of the water 1llb 10oz, Kev Downton with 14 ounces having the misfortune to lose one of the substantial barbel that inhabit the venue. Understand why this is one of the most popular BAA venues. Lots of fish and relatively comfortable walks ... but oh when is the Avon going to get some colour ... if only to curtal the pike. If you are into Pike the venues got to be worth a visit under current conditions and they look big double figure but agile fish !!!
