Re: Nafford and eckington

I've found in the past it's good to travel light when fishing Nafford and move around a bit, there's so many good spots it doesnt pay to get bogged down in one place all day, some reasonable pike just after the snaggy bit where the water calms down, nice Perch if you can bounce a ledger off the wall where the boats tie up (or even work a small lure or spoon), Chub below the point of the island...it's a place where it pays to think slightly differently and experiment a bit, suffice to say I've never blanked there.

Re: Otters at Apley Estate

Good post Johnny, like you I have never seen an Otter down here on the lower Severn, although I have come across mink quite often, and seen what they're capable of with regards to fish stocks, half eaten small carp and silver fish etc left on the banks of the pools and the river itself, possibly more of an issue than the otters? I dont know.

Re: Caring for barbel in the heat

Very good point Carl, it's probably best to leave them where they are in extremes of temperatures like we're having at the moment.

Re: June 16th

There are some monsters on that stretch, big Barbel towards the houses and some very big Pike and Zander down by the motorway bridge, none of it is easy but the rewards can be well worth it.

Re: Deerhurst and apperley

Onelastcast, I hadnt thought of that, it's possible I suppose, I've generally found that the shady slack water margins are far more productive than just whacking it out into open water, there is a lot of interesting stuff in the lower river, most of it big, also the predators...if anyone fancied a go I would suggest putting the time in, travel light because on a lot of the 'pegs' you wont have the space for box's etc, and be ready to move quickly, on a big flood tide the river will rise quite a few feet in minutes and you will be left scrambling up the bank with all your kit, as soon as you see the flow stop get out! the Severn below Tewkesbury can really produce but it's not for the fainthearted.
