Re: mythe farm

Sounds like the best method of pike fishing these days is to take some maggots/hemp and feed the swim and even hook a few so the pike detect the fish are in distress , then spin a silver dead bait near the swim to mimic a hooked fish, of course you would need to take a dead bait as you are not aloud to use live bait from BAA waters. I myself have always caught more pike whilst course fishing rather then spinning on the River Severn , they do take maggot occasionally. Holt Fleet I have had many hook link cut with luncheon meat as bait , I believe it may possibly be Zander or Pike?

I'm not really a predator fisherman but I think ledger dead bait is much more lightly to produce a large Pike. If I was going to lure fish I would travel light and be willing to cover several stretches in one day to improve my chances, think around Mythe would be good as you could get into a Zander. The ultimate surprise would be an unexpected Salmon.

Re: Carp at Bredon

Be careful lads you'll attract the carp brigade and the rats will grow to the size of a small dog with all the bollies left on the river bank to gouge on grin

I caught one carp from ladyham a few years back on red maggot and feeder , been up a couple of times this year and the bank has been empty both times on a Sunday and fished hard. In the floods Ladyham can deliver very big barbel . The late bailiff Nigel Horton(Baliff) witnessed me catch three barbel between 10-11 lbs on Luncheon meat in the space of 30 minutes and it was my first double and caught 3 of them !!! Those where the days on the Ham!

Re: Severn Roach

Well last season I had some right clonker red fins from Holt fleet , feeder with red maggots then change to corn to flush out the dace then onto the red fins. I caught one at least 3lbs I'm not sure if it was a hybrid but it was a right chunk. They will try and snag you in the weeds. also some bloody big bream if they make an appearance caught in the fast weir part surprisingly. Not getting on to many species this year just dace and perch, might try around Tewkesbury for a change or the new stretch at Grimley. Tight lines.
