Re: Beginning Fishing

Hopefully someone with more experience will give us some fly based advice! I'm quite glad that it seems difficult to fish the Teme as it sets a real challenge to aspire to for someone that has tried and conquered other times of fishing. Keep us posted on any trips you have!

Re: Closed season

I for one actually wonder if the closed season has a detrimental affect on modern day fishing. Bottom feeding fish such as barbel have come accustomed to intense highly rich diets made up of all the bait that we as anglers put into the rivers. Come to the close season and suddenly this high amount of feed stops. Obviously barbel don't just stop eating, they look for alternative food sources.

The habitat of the barbel (usually gravel beds) is suddenly flooded with fish spawn from all species which they readily gorge on.

It is why I feel the huge silver fish populations of the river Teme completely diminished when the barbel population soared, (that was before it then declined again!).

Re: Beginning Fishing

Thanks for the replies! i've been loads of times since this post and already learnt so much although the rivers are yet to be in a condition that I'd call near prime whilst I've been on them!

Re: lugg close season

The problem is that most of these rules are from many years gone by when people's honesty and their word meant something and went n the fact that most people had honest intentions of catching game fish. As both a game and coarse fisherman myself I know that certain flies have a higher tendency to pull up more coarse fish than others, flies which I steer clear of during the coarse close season.

Beginning Fishing

After many years fishing BAA waters for it's coarse fishing I've decided that i would like to give fly fishing a crack.
I have no previous knowledge of fly fishing whatsoever and was wondering if anyone could send me in the right direction to learn the art and catch some fish and whats the easiest set ups and easiest venues, (BAA or not) to learn how to fish on. Tuition prices online are really pricey so I was going to have a go at trial and error learning.

Any information would be greatly received

Many Thanks,

Adam
