Due to recent weather & river conditions, I deliberately chose not to fish for Barbel. I set out with traditional Bream baits to fish the Avon near Pershore. A medium feeder rod, 16 hooks fishing worms & casters were order of the day. I caught some nicePerch but no Bream. Then the tip gently eased round, and all of a sudden my feeder was 50 yards downstream! A cracking double figure Barbel was difficult to fit in the landing net. That’s why we love rivers!

Re: Try to do do the right thing!Great result mate. I fished Pershore in the week. A peg below the boatyard stretch. So glad I had tares with me. Bitten out by bleak on traditional baits. Had a good net of chub and dace by pole fishing into mid river.

Re: Try to do do the right thing! The water conditions don't necessarily match the air conditions, and the water temp always lags a few days behind air temp. Ironically the water temp was higher 3 days into the cool down than it was on the hottest day of the year, so when people started fishing again was probably the worst time. A week of hot weather isn't exactly a major risk. As long as you're sensible and recover the fish properly they'll be fine.
