Havent fished the Upper Severn yet this season but last summer spent a few days fishing at Pool Quay and Maesydd and can confirm that there are a few good barbel and chub in the deeper areas. Barbel seem to lay up under fallen trees during the heat of the day. Big fish are few and far between so you have to rover around to find them, I find that pre-baiting a few swims and leaving for at least an hour and going back to fish them in rotation, usually not a problem as anglers very rare!
