Re: Eardington Brook

Hi, Pete,

I fished the first peg by the footbridge, casting slightly upstream towards the shallows.

Eardington Brook

Cracking day at Eardington Brook on Sunday 23rd August. Had eleven barbel including two at eight and nine pounds exactly. Very wet but happy! All fish caught on pellet.

Re: Rubbish left on bank

I totally agree, I cannot understand the mentality of some of these so called anglers. Why in heavens name would you bring beer cans, bottles etc. fishing with you. Save the beer for when you get home to celebrate your day on the bank. I went to Hampton Loade the other week and took home a bag full of rubbish that someone had thoughtfully put all the cans and bottles in a carrier bag tied the top and then left on the bank... maybe it was left in error but I doubt it.

I have seen the same at Nordley Pools, including broken chairs just tossed into the woods.

My other big bugbear is discarded line, this is a hazard to wildlife as well as being unsightly, I know sometimes a length of mono can disappear into the grass and any amount of searching cannot find it but yards of braid etc that I have taken away, I think not.

Re: Barbel Alley - ease of access.

Having looked at the Google maps of that area I think Biffah went upstream to the bottom of the Eardington Brook section which is quite a long walk. There are some good swims up there above the shallows but its a long and tiring walk way up past the water works bridge.
I fished that bank on Saturday way up into Long Covert wood up past the water works - very overgrown and only 1 swim cut out and I didnt have a touch all day.... gave up and drove all the way round to the opposite side and had three barbel within an hour and all within two minutes of the car park.... should have stuck to that side!!

I think the barbel are all sitting in reasonably fast oxygenated water at the moment and the slower water such as the left bank does not hold them in large quantity - its different in flood conditions or in Autumn/winter. I have had over a hundred barbel this season and they have all come from fast water.

Re: Barbel Alley - ease of access.

Hi,

I thought that the Unicorn Inn was on the right bank upstream of the ferry, the campsite runs north and upstream?? - this is not BAA water - the opposite side to the Unicorn is BAA upstream and is known as the Left Bank. 'B' Section runs downstream on the Unicorn side, There is reasonably easy access from the car park which is right by the river and over one stile into the first paddock there are some good swims. I had fourteen off here a week or so ago all on pellet.
