Re: severn stoke

Probably about 500 yards from the car park I'd say. Worth the walk, though there are several tempting pegs before then!

Re: June 16th

Well that didn't quite go to plan! Decided last night that it would be the Danery for me this morning, largely based on a recce yesterday where it looked very barbely indeed.

Got there at 5.55 and the lay-by was already full, the bus stop was full and there were cars on the roadside. Sh1 tee. I'm getting too old and struggle to walk too far with all my gear, so hastily decided on Plan B, which was the Brook Section. Over Bridgnorth bridge and back down the other side, simples.

Only to find that the Brook Section was in desperate need of a haircut, the only remotely accessible peg was the first one immediately below the brook, but there were two guys fishing right opposite.

Plan C involved a trip down to Coombys Farm. It looks as though the barbel had forgotten it was June 16th, free feed day. Don't think anyone there saw whisker nor scale. They turned down balti luncheon meat, halibut pellets, corn, bread, krill boilies and meat cube boilies, all in all a veritable feast was presented and returned unwanted. Nice perch though, around 1 1/2 lbs.

There's always tomorrow.

Re: River Teme

I tend to use the same approach on all Teme stretches, which may or may not be a good thing! Light link leger just enough to hold bottom, generally a couple of SSG looped over the main line, with a big lump of meat, 10lb main and hair rigged size 8/10. I always roam around the peg and the stretch in general, looking for creases in the water, trees and snags, little ball of mashed bread to whet their appetite then meat on the nose.

The Teme's become so peggy though, the huge shoals of the 80s are long since gone, there's whole stretches without anything worth catching now sadly. I like the bottom of Cotheridge, last three or four pegs have some decent barbel, deeper water in Broadwas usually produces some good fish. So many high banks throughout the river though that makes access to good looking swims difficult, always been the same. Bransford used to be amazing when it was the Portobello water some 20 years ago, bottom half dozen pegs were full of barbel in the deeper water, many a happy hour was spent there with some great catches, but even that has died off of late. Don't think we can blame the seal!!

Re: Peg work teams. Thanks.

Thanks guys, you do an amazing job and it's great to see so many stretches looking in tip top shape for the start of the season.

Re: severn stoke

Top end of the stretch, opposite the red cliffs, river shallows a bit there and a feeder 3/4 way across produces well. At car park access and below there are some good pegs that produce close in. All the pegs down at Severn Stoke have potential for some huge barbel, usually close in on big baits.
