Anyone fished at Wasperton?

I've now fished 9 four hour evening sessions on usually prolific pegs, along the BAA and LAA stretch at Wasperton. And had,two missed bites and two Eels on luncheon meat, one small Chub(2lb ish) on lobworm. That's it,no further action except from pesky Crayfish.
On my last six or seven evening walks,I haven't seen any anglers on the bank. So,has anyone been?
If so,how did you do?

Fished the Avon at Marlcliff a few times in the last week or two, very quite, just 2 or 3 skimmers a session bar one when 3 nice perch turned up, overall pretty dead, hardly a bite. Other anglers saying the same. That's fishing I suppose

Re: Anyone fished at Wasperton?

gb,were there many other anglers there on your visits? Wasperton has been dead.
The rumour mill says Stratford is fishing really well, yet someone I know who cycles the riverside paths every day says he rarely sees an angler even in usually popular areas. No catches from the Avon are being reported on the LAA facebook page or in the newsletter.
I was considering going to further down the Avon on the BAA waters but have two concerns. First,I'll get there and find a lot of anglers already there. My other concern is the fishing will be just as dire as it is nearer home.

I fished below Alveston a couple of times BM … lots of chub on barbel gear . Some to 5lb .. and a6lb Bresm . I’m waiting for a more consistent period of rain water to go again . Wax considering Bidfard and Barton as well .

Re: Anyone fished at Wasperton?

Fished lower LAA stretch Friday evening, from 6.00pm until 10.00pm. The good news is not so much blanket weed on the bottom in the deeper water. The bad news, not a bite, not a twitch, not even a nibble from tiddlers or Crayfish. Fished luncheon meat, tried small pieces, large pieces,on the bottom, freelined, static, bounced along and every time the cubes came back perfect. Not a corner damaged. Even tried leaving a bait for forty minutes against the pads opposite to see if an Eel would take it. I love my local river fishing but I think it's time to call it a day at Wasperton and go elsewhere. Where? Absolutely no idea.

Re: Anyone fished at Wasperton?

I should know better!!! I've done another eight hours on the Avon at Wasperton and not had a twitch on the rod tip. The bait came back unmolested every cast. Spoke to an angler running a stick float with a 16 hook and maggots on Monday. He had caught a few small fish(his words) in two hours but wasn't exactly bagging.
I have seen better fish boshing on my walks, probably Chub, but they have been very few and far between and a lot of small fish and fry in the margins. So in the future fishing(several years down the line)should pick up but for now it's a bit grim.
Whatnow, you still with us? What news from daytime anglers? Has anyone been and caught?

Re: Anyone fished at Wasperton?

Fished on the BAA water at Wasperton yesterday(Wednesday) evening. River looked good, reasonable sized fish topping all over in the flow. Fished luncheon meat, two half inch cubes on a Stonfo Bait Holder(lazy hair rig) or two quarter inch cubes threaded on a size 8 Korda Mixa hook. 4.5g shot pinched on a powergum link.Fed small cubes little and often. Started at 5.50pm and had five good bites, that I missed,by 6.35pm. Then things changed,a load of surface rubbish, strange little light brown particles, came down in the flow for about thirty minutes and an odour, that lingered for a couple of hours, came from the water. The fish stopped topping, the bites stopped untill around 8.45pm when a few fish started rising again. Had another bite at 8.55pm,that I missed, then packed up as it was getting dark.
No idea what the particles were,I'm not touching anything brown and floating,or what the smell was, sort of composty, muck heapy. Seems the fish weren't keen on it either.
