Guys I'm trying very unsuccessfully to catch this barbel. Any help on what are the better pegs at the harbour water? Fished the 1st few but suffered terribly with snags. Any advice As to how I can locate the fish as I'm not confident I'm fishing in the correct areas. Thanks

Re: Arley Harbour

If you are fishing at Arley you will catch barbel.

The main problem is that the river is currently low which makes things more difficult. Low water and high temperatures means less oxygen in the water which isn't great from a fish's point of view. I'd steer clear of the deeper pegs and fish where the water has been oxygenated i.e. faster shallower water or where the water deepens just after shallows.

Fishing later in the day is a good idea, when the sun is less strong and lower in the sky or into dusk.

If you still struggle wait until there is a couple of foot of extra water on the river, it's much easier to catch barbel then.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Curry I will go again this coming week and use your helpful info. I have posted before I have never caught a Barbel (from a river) so its something I have to get out of my system. I have had 2 failed attempts @ Broadwas and 1 fail @ Arley on Friday have caught some lovely Chub though but not what I am after. Hopefully Ill break the duct this Week grin

Re: Arley Harbour

as curry says, get on the flowing water at harbour, down off the gravel is good.
again into dusk is best time. good old chunk of meat and hang on !
also the brook section always good for a whisker or two
. down stream as shallow and nice flow when river so low.
just fish with good strong tackle and get them barbel in quick. and rest for as long as needed.
tight lines mate smiling

Re: Arley Harbour

Some good advice, these conditions are not ideal, and yet more than ever more are fishing for Barbel, I would relax, if you are catching Chub you are doing nothing wrong, I prefer Autumn into Wiinter for Barbel, when they are at their peak condition, so the best is yet to come, and all the day trippers have gone, with their litter too.

Re: Arley Harbour

I filled nearly half a bin bag there a couple of weeks back,I would love to catch them in the act but that's just it,actually catching them.Anglers aren't always to blame but in this case it was obviously so called anglers that had left all their crap in at least half a dozen pegs.

Re: Arley Harbour

well done mate ! glad you had a few out .

about the litter. its a joke . cant ban people as cant catch them. and to have baillifs on bank all the time will cost money... and put our subs up alot.
as john care says roll on cold weather as summer boys stay away . and so does most of the crap.

Re: Arley Harbour

Congratulations Pitchisshifter, a good bag of barbel for these conditions. Good luck with the bream.

Rubbish/litter is a problem every where not just on the bank. You would hope anglers would care for the river banks more than most but it doesn't seem to be the case. Pick up what you can when you are fishing even if it's not your stuff.

I always take a carrier bag for any rubbish I create while I'm fishing and a bin bag for other peoples litter.

BAA does seem to be the worst club for litter, I don't see as much of a problem on KDAA waters or on Kinver freeliners waters. I live locally so I do walk the banks a fair bit. Maybe the other 2 clubs don't have as many members so their waters don't get hammered as much as BAAs.
