Hi everybody
Has anybody fished the teme at cotheridge lately is it still fishing well like it used too, are there still barbel and chubb there. I was going to fish stanford bridge but someone told me not to bother as since it flooded and the bridge got washed away the fishing has gone down hill and all the big barbel have gone is this also true, because I was going to do a night fishing session.
Any info would be grateful thanks

Re: Cotheridge river teme

Unless you have been living out of the country, you might know the Teme like many other rivers has suffered a catosrophic decline in Barbel and Chub stocks. The why is a subject that is too big for here, but the bottom line is there are still fish to be had but just manage your expectations.
If the Teme was by some miracle to recover, it wont be because we will be night fishing it, the river needs some serious help, but perhaps the biggest problem is water quality due to agriculture.
BAA control large stretches of the river, it would therefore seem appropriate the club actually communicated these problems, and acted.

Nelly I don' t know if you are on face book ? There are posts of barbel still being caught of the Teme

So they are making a slow return to the Teme , Which can only be good news

Was this area of the teme affected by the drought a couple of years ago? I remember something in the news about it running dry and there were desperate efforts from the EA and locals to transfer the fish elsewhere. Unless I dreamt it!

Fishychris, no you didn't dream it but I am sure it was further upstream of BAA sections. The following linkhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-52852106,... outlines the issue. There was a similar event in the Shropshire/Hereford area in 2018 and also 2011, which combined with the intervening winters of floods can make the Teme a pretty precarious habitat.

Thanks Mr Chub. Seems this river is finely balanced, and in recent years has been somewhat unbalanced. I have never fished it so can't identify with its prolific past, but it certainly has an almost cult favourite status with those who have.

Re: Cotheridge river teme

I fished the Teme many years ago for barbel . It was a well known river for barbel anglers.

When we had the floods in 2007 for long periods after , The river was never the same and it took a long time to recover to its former glory days .

Then the Otters started to appear and barbel anglers were up in arms because of the impact the otters were having on barbel numbers .

There appears to be some good news that barbel numbers seem to be up and making a return according to some of the posts on face book
