I've used dead maggots for freebies a few times when there's weed in the swim to try and keep some on top or near the top of it. I have used the hot/boiling water method, before I start out, but after a time they look real grotty and not at all fresh. I did think of kill as you go with a flask of hot water but that is more clobber to carry. Any ideas of a better method that will keep them looking a bit more tasty for longer. Thanks.

Re: Dead maggots. HelpFreeze them in small batches of a pint or half a pint if you have a rapid freeze setting all the better. You need to freeze them for about 48 hours this stops then coming back to life. You could also kill them by first putting them in cold water and adding boiling water until they die only draw back with this method is they tend to stretch and lose colour if not whites.
