The gap in the platforms is to release the pressure from the water when the river rises and also to allow for the silt to wash away when the river falls slowly. (Silt rots the board if not cleared)
The Severn will rise quickly and fall quickly and you may see that where no gaps have been left the pegs will pop up and look like a sky ramp also when it fall quickly you will see silt even with a Gap in the boards,
On the Avon silt is not such a problem, you will note that the BAA Style pegs are standard on all our venues where we own the fishing rights.
