Re: June 16th

Hi UK Hunter and welcome, First Uckinghall, I fished it a few days ago and it is fishing OK, if you like the float then even better. I normally float fish here but on that occasion I used a light quiver rod that is years old (North Western) and had not used before then...a few bream on red maggot, but they were finniky so you might need to fish ultra light.

As far as Barbel, (that's what I do) loads to go at on the BAA, but the Lower Severn fishes better later in the season, look at the upper reaches of the Avon and Severn for perhaps more action. The upper Warks Avon would be nearer to you from Oxford, might be worth considering. When you are at Uckinghall again, check out the Severn that runs behind it, it's EA and 'free', plenty of safe platforms too.

Good luck.

The EA stretch behind Uckinghall is a bit of a mystery to me tbh, but probably worth a go, have heard of Barbel coming out. But that's the thing about the lower, you never know.

There are some monsters on that stretch, big Barbel towards the houses and some very big Pike and Zander down by the motorway bridge, none of it is easy but the rewards can be well worth it.

Wasperton is ok, but fishes better later in the season, it also gets very busy early season, well, hammered actually, as the venue is easy access, you can drive along the banks if it's dry.

It's hard from a barbel point of view, but they are there, some big carp though.
