Newhalls / Stourport - missing roach

Just wondered how members have fared with roach fishing at Stourport this winter. Like last year I have found it hard going and worryingly, haven't seem a roach. Have caught dace and the odd perch from normally reliable roach pegs. I suppose conditions haven't helped with flood water before Xmas and now the river is low and clear after no rain for 4 weeks. It's probably me, but I am finding the Severn tough going

Similar experiences. The roach are still there but lately seem to be packed tightly near the main road bridge in Stourport. Usually as the light fades they start to disperse and you can sometimes winkle a few out, but they are not really feeding. They will not move onto the usual stick-float line and you have to trot down perhaps 30 m to get bites, well beyond where your loose feed settles.

When they are really "having it" the roach will come up right under where your loose feed goes in.

Hopefully as the days lengthen and it gets a bit warmer they will have a final feed before the end of the season.

Thanks for feedback Yorkie - good to know that they are still around. I've got too used to bagging up when conditions are spot on and my stick float skills are ok, but probably lack the finesse and subtle tactics to catch when conditions are more challenging.

I have never had any problem parking there although the car park does get quite full nowadays even when neither the rowers nor the footballers are there. I think it's overflow from the new medical centre.

Thanks might give it a go before the end of the season would make a change from fishing the rec at Stratford. The Roach are having it there alright last week I was swinging 6oz Roach to hand on the whip and having Bream to 6lb on the feeder throughout the winter but it costs £8 parking for the day.
