Correct sadly. I live in Lower Moor and my local stretch has no fishable pegs, unless I go down there with a shovel and dig a couple out there won’t be. There are many stretches like this within the BAA unfortunately and it’s a pretty sad reflection due mainly I suspect to the decline in popularity and also to the migration of anglers to commercial fisheries. Some 40 years ago I was secretary of several small clubs of some 30-40 members and when you booked matches you were given 1 or maybe 2 meadows but there never seemed too much trouble getting them in, and in the < big un> there was 4000 pegs along the Severn and Avon, how many could you accommodate now? I bet maybe 20% of that. Surely it makes more sense to give up some of these stretches and concentrate more time and money on properly maintained waters which can also be baliffed effectively (pretty much the only visitors to Lower Moor are unlicensed Eastern European’s)
I realise this is a pretty emotive subject but I fear that if nothing is done and based on the current decline, there with only be a handful of fishable stretches of our rivers left.
