I've had a reasonable number of eels from the Severn but they tend to be about a pound or larger, none of the boot laces that were common before. I don't think that's down to bait size as I often use 6 or 8mm pellets.

I used to specifically fish for large eels during the old close season when you couldn't do anything else. Now you can fish still waters all year round I'd rather spend the time going after tench..
