Hi all, I want to fish this River this year and in particular, Braodwas, Cotheridge and the new section. Any particular pegs to head for?
Also walked the new stretch, at Doddington and there seems hardly any pegs to fish, are there plans to do any improvements with this venue?
Thanks in advance

Re: River Teme

Hi Sillybait,

Re' our new fishery at Doddenham just above Broadwas, the Fisheries Team plans to visit to do improvements a.s.a.p, but we've been quite busy so far this year with the new Wye fishery and the general rush to get existing river locations ready for the new season. Will keep you informed on plans and progress.

Can't recommend pegs at Broadwas or Cotheridge, strimmed them plenty of times, but never fished them!

Re: River Teme

Cotheridge is one of the last Teme stretches that still contains lumps, particularly towards the bottom end. Teme barbel seem to have shrunk in recent years, doubles are now like hens teeth whereas 20 years ago most stretches held some seriously big fish. Doddenham looks to have some potential, walked it the other day and there were some tidy looking chub milling around, bigger than average Teme stamp.

Re: River Teme

Hi Old Monkey, thanks for the reply.
Just to ask you some more advice to be honest, Cotheridge: I have never fished there to be honest but plan on doing so soon, any tips on the approcach, bait wise and best pegs to head for?
Just going back to the new Doddenham stretch, I walked the stretch and to be honest only found 2 pegs fishable, one had wooden steps in it. I have a friend who was a member of the previous club who had the water and they said it never got fished due to there being no pegs to fish from. What's your thoughts on the stretch?
I personally think that although it's great to have additional stretch's but would it not be better to purchase waters that will be fished, I don't think this stretch will see much action, just few hard core in my opinion. Having said that there are still some excellent stretchs of the Teme that hopefully the BAA will go for, the Haven stretch and the one down stream from the Talbot, which I think belongs to the Kinver Free liners, great stretch but never gets fished.
Fingers crossed BAA are looking at those and they have no high banks and lots of pegs.
Your thoughts Guys!!!!

Re: River Teme

I tend to use the same approach on all Teme stretches, which may or may not be a good thing! Light link leger just enough to hold bottom, generally a couple of SSG looped over the main line, with a big lump of meat, 10lb main and hair rigged size 8/10. I always roam around the peg and the stretch in general, looking for creases in the water, trees and snags, little ball of mashed bread to whet their appetite then meat on the nose.

The Teme's become so peggy though, the huge shoals of the 80s are long since gone, there's whole stretches without anything worth catching now sadly. I like the bottom of Cotheridge, last three or four pegs have some decent barbel, deeper water in Broadwas usually produces some good fish. So many high banks throughout the river though that makes access to good looking swims difficult, always been the same. Bransford used to be amazing when it was the Portobello water some 20 years ago, bottom half dozen pegs were full of barbel in the deeper water, many a happy hour was spent there with some great catches, but even that has died off of late. Don't think we can blame the seal!!

Re: River Teme

Hi, I fish Cotheridge a lot, Broadwas quite often and plan to give Doddenham a right good go this season. It's true that some of the banks are high and some access to some of the other pegs could be better but for me this is what makes fishing the Teme so special. If it was really easy to fish every peg wouldn't the world and his Mother be down there hammering it? Knowing that I have caught a fish from a cramped peg which I have had to scramble down makes it all the better.
There are some big barbel in Cotheridge and they probably avoid the more heavily fished pegs.
All the best.

Re: River Teme

Hi, thanks for the reply, yes your right on the theory of good pegs, lots of traffic.. I suppose I would just like vtyhe new stretch to be a bit more back friendly!!
Anyway I'm going to give Cotheridge a good go so can I pick your brains on the pegs you could tell me to head for and the baits you have had success with..
Cheers mate

There are more good pegs upstream of the carpark than downstream, yes, I agree.

Re: River Teme

Hi,
I have never fished there before but plan to go this week... When I park, which peg should I head for in your opinion. It's just I don't get to fish the rivers much and don't want to spend hours walking the bank lol
How many pegs are there on the stretch that are fisable.
Cheers

You can park by the lock keepers office/house. There is room for about 4 cars. Its only about 50 yards from there.
