Re: EA Closed Season Consultation

What I actually said was water foul would be a greater danger to spawn in shallow water because it would be eaten.
Ok, if it makes any difference then impose a bylaw stating no wading between march and June!!!
If you were to put an offer on the table to the government about making say 10 million quid by having 2 licences....1 at £30 a year for 9 months fishing and 1 at £40 for a full year of river fishing they would change the law tomorrow!!

I'd be prepared to pay the extra

Re: EA Closed Season Consultation

Working on that basis Brummy would £40 be worth it? Or £30? We all know our licence fees are well spent on EA patrols - I got checked 32 times last season, oh hold on, no sorry, got that wrong been checked once in 32 years that's it.

If were using that as an argument we need to think again, should we propose a scrapping of the licence fees as canoeists don't pay one, nor do dog walkers nor do... I could go on

You should see the flood defences in Somerset,or the dredging that's gone on nationwide, totally messed up the fishing but the expensive floodplane building plans are safer now., so least we payed for that

We pay our licence fee for the actual act of fishing, not because we use the waterways. Therefore, canoeists wouldn't need to pay.
I can see where you are going with this though. Should Cyclists pay road insurance?.....should people who don't want to watch BBC be made to pay a TV licence?

If our money is used for improvement of our waterways then surly an increase in the licence fee for those who would be willing to pay for extra fishing would be a good thing

Re: EA Closed Season Consultation

That's the crux of the matter Brummy it's that 100% doesn't go back in to fishing, If all our fees went to the Angling Trust and fish legal it would be better than the EA getting it. Think we'd all be happy to pay more if we saw something of a return.

I set a goal of fishing 100 rivers a few years back and now am on 110 but I saw no enforcement bailiffs, not one, but on my journey around the South, South East, West Country,East Anglia and the Midlands I saw a lot of rivers on the edge through pollution, poaching and abstraction. And some that will hold no fish for the next generation.

Until we see 100% of our fees reinvested in river and waterway habitat improvement and protection we shouldn't advocate giving any extra funds
