i would love to know how other members feel about the use of keep nets when not match fishing.
putting a barbel in a keep net to me seems criminal.

Re: keep nets

it IS criminal!!

In a match, there's not much that can be done really, outside of that it's a big no-no. I think most pleasure angler don't do it these days, but some still do. Other clubs have bans on barbel in nets, it needs a review, unhooking mats are another item, they should be compulsory.

Re: keep nets

it pains me that no carp in keepnets.... but other big fish ok ?
if fishing for small bits then keepnet ok but its down to each angler and how much you care for your fish. ie peg net out right, nice large size net, not leaving fish in net for hours etc.
but its a big no no for barbel. and not to even let fish recover.

Re: keep nets

I've not used a keepnet at all in the last 20 years or so. Not even for silver fish. I bought a net about 12 years ago because it was cheap, it's still in it's wrapper.

Any fish I catch go straight back in. I might take a photo as a record if they are decent fish but that's it.
