Re: Mythe Pool

I think I was told it marks a cage of some sort. A refuge I think he said, although it is a few years since I went. Someone will know.

Re: Mythe Pool

You're right. it marks one corner of a wire cage, 3 metre x 3 metre square x 2metre deep, which was put in to act as a fish refuge against cormorant predation. four ball-valve floats were attached to the corners, but obviously not secure enough. I expect the cage is now well festooned with leads and swimfeeders,

Thanks, I'll avoid it then! Saw two cormorants this morning so it's certainly needed

Re: Mythe Pool

In reply to ezam, I've only fished it a few times over the last few years, but there's a decent head of bream. On the right day they can be quite easy to catch, and a good stamp too, up to 7lb.

Though some days the place seems to switch off and nothing will work.

Successful tactics for me have been open ended or cage feeder filled with loose offerings and plugged each end with ground bait. I've caught on sweetcorn, luncheon meat and soft pellets.

Some good tench too, though I've found typical tench style that they'll only feed early morning or into the evening. Tried a few times to catch them on the float and not succeeded, but same tactics and baits as for bream have worked.

Carp there also, but I don't think there's many and reckon they're pretty tough to catch.

I'm sure other members will be able to add to this. Good luck if you try it out!

Re: Mythe Pool

I had a walk around the pool yesterday. There are quite a few platforms that need attention-planks missing and in some cases collapsed all together.

Re: Mythe Pool

Great water but don't waste your time fishing it in the middle of the day! Very early start or 4pm onwards. Also have a walk first and get an idea of where the fish are, they do like to follow the wind on this long lake. Also dont be scared to put the bait in, I often arrive around 2/3pm (spring onwards this is) and ball it in with a catty give them a few hours to settle and 4/5pm it switches on like a light proper fishing! I have always got on well with Sonubaits feeder bream groundbait, micro's and either red maggot or corn on hook. Method works well to. If I am fishing top pegs the tench always make an appearance, feeder always seems to outscore the pole for me & I never catch that close in. Hope this helps

Re: Mythe Pool

I cant catch over the magic Ton @ Mythe though, I have now spent 3 seasons trying getting close on many occasions but always just falling short. I think 25 Bream would do it. I might put a bit of effort into it this April (bream time) on wards and then I can finally fish a few different venues if i achieve my goal. I might also just give up come September smiling
