Re: Lower Severn or Avon for Thursday/Friday??

Hornytoad happy to help any one I can . I fish mainly on the lower Severn and some times the W/Avon . If its Barbel or Bream you are after try either Severn Stoke or Ripple . If you dont like to walk to far , You can drive along the bank at Ripple . There are some big barbel on those stretches if you can find them . But be warned you will blank more often than you catch . Chub are hard to find on those stretches . Try a ground bait feeder for Bream . Maggot or castor works well or try chopped worm . So I have been told if you are using worm on the hook Try using a piece of sweetcorn on the hook as well . You will find lots more Barbel they may be smaller than on the Lower but there are more of them on the middle sections of the Severn . Also there are more Chub and more Roach the farther up the Severn you go . I hope that helps and good luck

Re: Lower Severn or Avon for Thursday/Friday??

Hornyoldtoad given the time of the year we all have our blanks . Depending on what you are hoping to catch ? If you are targeting Barbel . I would suggest at this time of the year you wait for some mild weather . If its been cold for a while with overnight frosts and water temperatures have dropped you will struggle . You should not have a problem if you are after Chub . It might be worth investing in a water thermometer if you are targeting Barbel . I would say water temperatures need to be above 6 C and rising and you may be in with a good chance of a fish . Any thing lower and you will struggle .
If you are fishing when the river is up and coloured ,meat is worth a try . Also look for a crease in the in the flow . Where the current runs along side of the slack water and try to fish along that edge if that makes sence . If its Chub you are after . I think you will find that Chub will feed in the coldest of conditions . Good luck in the future .

Neil Smart I am going to ask you what I consider a reason question . You say it would be prudent perhaps not to broadcast where a certain specimen had been caught down to peg locations . You may not agree with it but it is common sence . Perhaps you can explain why and was it common sence to send 2 private messages on facebook to the guy who holds the current River Severn Barbel record . and was it common sence when he refused to tell you and deleted you from his list of facebook friends ?

Re: River Severn Ladyham

Thanks for all the advice guys . I would like to have a go at the Roach . Given the time of the year . What baits would you suggest ? I am assuming maggots ? Would hemp and tares work or even pellets ?
