Re: Walcott Lake

I don't know the place, I've never fished it.

I would imagine the silting would require dredging. I can't think of any other way of removing it. I've no idea how much this would cost.

Previously I lived in the south many of the still waters had a bad weed problem. I used to rake a swim out then feed with particles, the fish constantly rooting around for food would keep the weed down quite well. It was a bit of a losing battle, by July the weed would win but by then I'd done enough tench fishing anyway. Most of those waters contained tench and carp.

There were a few waters that held a few grass carp. Not many but obviously enough because they never had weed problems. Last time I checked it was still possible to buy them and stock them into waters. They don't breed in this country so they are never going to take over a water and wouldn't be a problem if they got into the wider environment.

I've never been a carp angler but I have caught the odd grass carp, they do fight well

Re: boats on rivers

I've been on both sides.

Sometimes on a river you need to keep to the deep water, that puts you in conflict with anglers who are fishing the outside of a bend. Nothing the boat can do except apologise.

Sometimes you just don't see the angler until the last minute if he's in a peg with a lot of vegetation.

Some boat owners are ignorant , you will always get a few.

As a fisherman I've rarely found the boats ruin the sport.

Re: River Close Season

I've seen anglers fishing several times this close season. Once on the Severn just south of the amusements at Stourport, someone on the canal in Kiddy the other side of the road near the Watermill pub. And someone on the Stour.

I walked past the guy in Stourport who was just packing up. I didn't speak to him as I had my wife with me.

The other 2 were as I was driving past.

I'm not sure about canals but I thought they were included in the close season rules.

I've only just moved back to this area but I've never seen this happen anywhere else I've lived.

Re: What do you want from the BAA

Lee, I agree that the more engagement there is the better.

The trouble is, I suspect, that the vast majority of members just buy their BAA book and go fishing. They aren't that bothered about the association providing they can fish their favourite waters.

Take these boards as an example, how many posters are there in total? Not many when you consider the total number of members. Apathy is the main problem. Look at the number of people who turn up for work parties, vey few and usually the same ones. Don't get me wrong I don't go on work parties either, so I'm hardly in a position to criticise.

The idea of BAA officers coming on here to discuss anything relevant is a good one and I do think it has happened. On one of the Stacklands threads I seem to remember one of the bailiffs appeared to explain his views. At least it was a start.

Re: Fladbury Barbel

Well done, cracking fish.

From some of your comments you've had a hard season up to now so you deserve that one. Hopefully it will herald a change of luck and you will make out like a bandit for the rest of the season.
