Re: Warwickshire Avon

So,are fish being caught? Difficult to say, lack of anglers at Wasperton tells a story. It is very hard fishing for bigger fish, for smaller ones(of which there appears to be plenty)I have no idea.
The grapevine has it that sections directly below weirs are fishing reasonably ok,makes sense, discharge deoxygenates the water, weirs put some back.
Water quite dark again yesterday evening, blanket weed and sub surface plants starting to get coated with brown algae again where I looked on slower sections.

Re: Overgrown Stretches

Twenty odd years ago, when I was a bailiff for LAA at Wasperton,I was talking with and angler in their top meadow above the BAA stretch. Another angler appeared from the upstream,Forge Cottage section(no longer on the LAA books) and asked if I was the bailiff. I confirmed that I was to which he replied "I have just walked the entire Forge Cottage stretch and the pegs are so overgrown with nettles and weeds you can't get to the river, why haven't they been cleared?"
I asked him if he was severly disabled,he said "Obviously not,I've just told you I walked the whole section".
I replied "Feel free to clear a few pegs then". And carried on my conversation with the chap I'd been talking to before Captain Whinge turned up.

Re: Anyone fished at Wasperton?

Fished lower LAA stretch Friday evening, from 6.00pm until 10.00pm. The good news is not so much blanket weed on the bottom in the deeper water. The bad news, not a bite, not a twitch, not even a nibble from tiddlers or Crayfish. Fished luncheon meat, tried small pieces, large pieces,on the bottom, freelined, static, bounced along and every time the cubes came back perfect. Not a corner damaged. Even tried leaving a bait for forty minutes against the pads opposite to see if an Eel would take it. I love my local river fishing but I think it's time to call it a day at Wasperton and go elsewhere. Where? Absolutely no idea.

Re: Anyone fished at Wasperton?

gb,were there many other anglers there on your visits? Wasperton has been dead.
The rumour mill says Stratford is fishing really well, yet someone I know who cycles the riverside paths every day says he rarely sees an angler even in usually popular areas. No catches from the Avon are being reported on the LAA facebook page or in the newsletter.
I was considering going to further down the Avon on the BAA waters but have two concerns. First,I'll get there and find a lot of anglers already there. My other concern is the fishing will be just as dire as it is nearer home.
