I had a walk around both pools at the weekend, it's been a while since I've popped in there, I have to say I was shocked by what I found, apart from maybe half a dozen pegs on either pool the rest was unfishable, very little to no access at all on most of the banks, completely neglected. Can we expect a work party to open it up again in the forseeable future? I realise its not one of the more popular venues, not being a match water and being where it is but for us that live local it's always been handy for a decent days fishing, it's a real shame to see it let go like that.

Re: Apperley

I haven't fished there for about 3 years, but access was not very good then. I think you'd have been hard pushed to find any more than 3 or 4 accessible pegs on the larger pool, though the 'where to fish' section states 28 pegs.

It is a shame to see the place falling into neglect - but I think every time I fished there - I was the only angler. So I guess the more popular venues take priority.

Given how overgrown the place was, I reckon it would be a huge job to sort it out.

Maybe some other members could offer their opinion as to whether it's worth tidying up this venue? I would love to see a few more pegs opened up.

Might have a blast for the pike on Friday then. Is that pool 1 or pool 2?

Re: Apperley

Your probably better of on the smaller square pool for the pike, I've usually done well on lures in there with a slow retrieve, as I've said elsewhere on here there are some reasonable Tench in there as well in the margins, there are carp in the other pool but I dont think their up to much and I've never seen one caught.

Re: Apperley

I have never had much from Apperley. I fished a few times last year including winter and had a small jack and a few small rudd. Would be interested to know if anyone has caught tench or carp out of there in recent years as they are often talked about but rarely seen? I dont mind the fact its a little wild as tthis can often add to a venue but if is void of any sizable fish then time maybe better spent elsewhere. I suspect its proximity to the river means it can be impacted during floods so woner if this plays a part. When was it last stocked with anything?

Re: Apperley

Ok, I've had Tench to about 3 or 4 LB out of the square pool, pike to about 6LB from the same, and there is, or was, a shoal of decent bream that used to work their way around the island lake, I've tangled with them many times in the past...I've not been down there for about 3 years so I cant give you an up to date report, it's a case of getting down there and having a go for yourself.

I must have missed you mate, I wasnt fishing, just took the dog for a walk around, I was gone by about 12.30...I spent about an hour down there watching both pools, I'd have to agree with you, very quiet, no real movement anywhere, there should be a bit of surface activity by now I would have thought...

Re: Apperley

It seems like all the BAA pools are starting to slowly be forgot about. No real decent venue for the carp Anglers either.

Re: Apperley

I think most of their waters are obviously in the midlands, so the Gloucestershire pools (and the Severn down this end) are probably the most southern most waters they run and so dont feature very highly on their maintenance lists.

Re: Apperley

Lets face it, the BAA is about rivers. They have tons of decent access to rivers for a great price which is why I joined. They only ever had a small handfull of pools from what I can see and some of these are 'ok' but can often be hit or miss. Coppice and Uckinghal are the best of the bunch I have fished. Apperley and the Mythe do have fish but you will blank regularly at these waters or eek out the odd fish.
If you want to fish lakes there are plenty in the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire/Oxfordshire area from comercial to specimen that are a much better bet and not too expensive or busy.
