Another bit of help needed please.
I know the rep the Johnson family and friends have regarding the above traveller site but is it really so bad to have give the place a swerve?
Obviously I don't want my car crushed or to be part of a new feature in Stubbs...But looks like the river might be worth fishing, and as a bonus is closer to home.
Thanks.

Re: Cleave Prior

I used to fish the stretch of river by Stubbs a lot and had quite a few barbel out. But stopped going when I heard about the travellers causing trouble and also the track being badly potholed and rutted. I think the track has been repaired, but don't know if the other threat is still around.

I did fish the section at the end of Mill Lane near the carpark at the end of December last year. Was a bit wary of going as I fish alone, but didn't see anyone apart from a couple of dog walkers. No other anglers either.

Though when driving home there were about 3 police vehicles parked at the entrance to the traveller's site.

Not sure I'd chance it again. Shame that we're put off from fishing what is a really good stretch of the Avon.

Re: Cleave Prior

I think the car park at meadows 1+2 safe, lots of dog walkers up that end.

Im going to give it a go this year down by Stubbs on the river meadows 3-8
Apparently good bit of river thou never fished it because of the troublesome locals, park along bank too.

Can’t a few of us get our heads together and go fish it one day and sus-it-out?
Safety in numbers an all that…

Re: Cleave Prior

Or we could try a bit of old fashioned gypsy bare knuckle fighting in the car park...

Re: Cleave Prior

That's part of the problem, they're used to fighting and train for bare knuckle bouts, it's part of their culture. I haven't raised a fist in anger for a very long time and probably a bit past it now.

Maybe as somebody said, meadows 1-2 are safer. Such a shame though as there's a lot of fishing in the other meadows.

Re: Cleave Prior

Good evening All

The fishery team have done some work down Stubbs Pool this year and not once have we come across any trouble. I think as members we need to give it a good go and would love to prove people wrong on here. If you come across any trouble we all have mobile phone and report this to the police. Fishing is our passion don't let people like this put you off. we have put quite an amount of money into the track last year so please give it a good and please post to see how you got on. Most of the pool and river is accessible by car so you can park right behind your pegs on the first three meadows.

Re: Cleeve Prior

I'll definitely give it a go then after June 16th. Usually fishes best with a couple of feet of extra water on, so I'll bide my time and wait for the right conditions.

Re: Cleeve Prior

It's quite exciting fishing new stretches, not expecting too much, but you never know. The more the better down there, can't be intimidated so the place goes unfished.
