What's the crack with the access? Will it be sorted now the season has started?

Re: Cotheridge

Can anyone tell us when we will be able to fish Cotheridge. When you take into account the fact that the carpark was filling up with rubbish well before the end of last season and we are now at the end of July and we still can't fish it. Anyone on the committee feel like updating us?

Re: Cotheridge

Is Cotheridge fishable (what's the problem haven't been down)

Is it access, or bak growth?

If not what other Teme stretches nearby are?

Thanks

Re: Cotheridge

Still closed due to fly tipping, I understand. Will have a drive up there later tonight and have a look. Shame, as it's the only Teme stretch that still produces anything on a regular basis really now the oxbow is unavailable.

Re: Cotheridge

I would really appreciate some info from the Baa regarding Cotheridge. We have had no update since it closed. What exactly is the hold up? Is it any closer to being resolved? I still hope to fish it this Autumn or shall I just give up on that idea?
Come on give us a clue.

Re: Cotheridge

I have fished it twice this season. First time soon after it opened and caught a 7lb barbel first cast plus some nice chub. Second time about 4 weeks ago. The river was very low but still extracted 2 barbel to 6.5 lb and three chub to 3 lb. There were a couple of other members there but no one else and the swims very overgrown as you'd expect. I had to park elsewhere, travel very light and hike all the way down there - a bit nerve racking walking past the encampment of caravan, rubbish, old cars and rather noisy dog, but figure I can look after myself and JW has confirmed we still have the fishing rights - we just can't park there. Might try again once the river is up a bit.
Would be nice if some new access could be arranged but at least the river is fishing well with virtually zero fishing pressure.

Re: Cotheridge

Thanks for the update.
So, let me get this right...We can still fish there, we just can't park there. So why does the picture of Cotheridge on the BAA website have a big red notice across it saying 'fishery temporary closed'? Surely a better choice of words would have been 'carpark temporary closed'.!!!
I look forward to the website being updated immediately after this change of circumstance.

Re: Cotheridge

Interestingly it is in theory possible to fish the bit of river I like from the opposite bank accessed from the Ox Bow fishery, but access is, as they state 'only for the intrepid angler'. I guess I fall under that category but I'm not clear if we can actually drive there as the car park is described as 'not maintained' - does this mean a tractor can drive over your car as they see fit? The access was certainly very bumpy when I last went down there and if I had a 4x4 that would fair better than my estate car.
Might try it again but maybe a mountain bike would offer easier access.
Similarly there is an access road to the other side off the A44 that runs right down to the river but I guess a farmer owns that. That would be a better bet though, if we could switch access to that track. See attached. Maybe I'll email JW to see what he says.

Re: Cotheridge

Problem with the Oxbow is the landowner, who has effectively blocked off the lane that leads to the fishery, no vehicles can go down there now. Pity, as the Oxbow itself has been known to produce and the swims just above it used to hold fish too. Have considered wading across from Cotheridge, but now we can't park there either I'm tempted to get the wife to drop me off at the top of Teme Lane by the Alan's Pool access and walk down to the river, thus not needing the car park. If only something could be sorted with access to the Oxbow as it's worth it in my opinion.

Re: Cotheridge

Fished Cotheridge yesterday late afternoon and till dark - I was the only one there, as you might expect. Had a nice barbel about 5.5 lbs and a small chub. River was very low, so not bad results considering I was only there 3 hours. The guy in the caravan now has two noisy dogs - one of which was off the chain when I came back past - didn't bite me though, just a bit scary when it comes up to you barking. Don't think I'll fish it again this year - the walk down there is ok but the hassle isn't worth it.
