Off to Eckington for the first time tomorrow. Can somebody please tell me if the car park is free parking or pay and display.

Re: Eckington

Last time I went it was free, but that was a few years ago, so it could have changed.

Re: Eckington

its free parking because its a picnic area. ... but it is the opposite side of the road to the venue so you have to cross the bridge..

Re: Eckington

Yes free, but last time there a SUV reversed into my car so if you can park with space around you.
The problem with here in the summer especially is the amount of free swimmers Kayaks boarders, divers whatever that fill the place and make it impossible to fish in that area, but a long walk to the Swan Neck bend should provide some peace.
The bridge was a scene of a tragic accident last year where a young driver crashed into the river and sadly drowned, he apparently gambled on a red light on the narrow bridge.

Downstream of the bridge is Eckington A.C water which for match anglers used to be a top venue with a record weight returned a few years back...Bream of course. Plenty of water incl a weir system...all for a tenner I think, book from Eckington Post Office.

Good luck if you go...check out the old Tight Lines episode a few years back that featured Zander and Pike along this stretch and included Nafford. Well worth a watch.

Re: Eckington

Parking is free, as Onelastcast mentioned above when the weather is good almost impossible to have good fishing - all sort of people on the river ( I have seen peoples bathing their dogs there) + heavy boat traffic.
Next to the bridge/opposite the car park the river is wide, flat bank, then it gets narrow, bank is steeper, but that helps with the wind. Then it get wider again, especially at the neck. Plenty swims ( my last visit there was 3 weeks ago) and the farmer had the field grass cut.
P.S. Not 100% sure, but it is £20/year for Eckington AC.

Re: Eckington

Been today and the boats, swimmers, paddle, boarders and canoes weren't a problem. Bleak on the other hand were a pain in the ###. 7lb Bream the highlight

Re: Eckington

I guess the poor weather put them off....but well done on the slab a 7lb Bream is a great fish...suppose the Bleak are a great snack which makes the venue good for Zander and Pike.
And yes the ticket for Eckington A.C is indeed £20 not £10.
