I'm planning on spending a bit more time fishing more local to home over the winter, and I'm planning my first visit to Wasperton, but unsure on the access, which I hope somebody can help with.

I've Google Mapped the Long - Lat coordinates which seems to bring me to the end of the road facing a gate. I'm assuming the upstream pegs are accessed going through the gate on the right (which looked like I would be driving up somebodies driveway), and keeping to the track on the right. And for downstream, again facing the gate at the end of the road, access is by a track left of the gate?

Is this correct as I can't see any BAA signs using Google streetview?

Hi chap

When you get to the end of Wasperton for the upstream pegs you turn into the farm and keep to the track on the right down to a gate. For the upstream pegs instead of turning into the farm you take the gravel track on the left and then turn right down to a gate. In both cases go through gate, remember to shut behind you and down to the river. Warning, there are some big ruts along the bank

Re: Re: Manor Farm - Wasperton

Thanks for the reply. Are the ruts in the track on both tracks, and pass-able or much of a problem if tackled with care?

I doubt I'd attempt a first trip in the wet anyway, as I did that at Salford Priors 12 months ago, and gave up after attempting driving thought the second 'pond' in the track

The ruts are fine as long as you take care and driver between them. Managed without problems last week. Pretty sure there are some in both sections.

Turn off the A429 into Wasperton, as per signpost. Follow road as far as you can go, maybe 1/2 mile ish. You will come to a dead end, sort of converted barn in front of you.

Turn right for top end of section, looks like you are going through private property but just go right and through gates and you will be in top meadow, river ahead.

For downstream meadow, turn left at this 'dead end' instead of right...then immediately right after a short distance onto a track, currently this track is marked as BAA access, keep going, through gate, close after you and river is ahead.

The first time I went I had trouble finding it as well, took right turn for top meadow and thought this isn't right and backed out , seems like you are going into someones place, but keep going and you will find you are on the right route.

Re: Manor Farm - Wasperton

Thanks for the advice with the access. I found my way in down to the river using the downstream track without a problem.
I bottled it when turning left to go further downstream as I slipped a couple of times passing the ruts, and not knowing what it was like further down I decided to have a walk and see what things were like.
I did in the end drive downstream, but I wouldn't have attempted it had it been raining, but hey, I can walk.

As for the fishing, it wasn't brilliant, but I was getting bites which is the main thing. I had about 2Ib of bits, mainly roach, in the end, but it's good to see there's a good head of roach in there. Only one was worthy of the landing net.

I'll be back for another bash soon

Yeah, the access is quite easy to find, but the fishing isn't. Loads of small stuff but barbell are few and far between. But when you do hook a barbell it will definitely be a big one. My p.b at this venue is 14lb, but this is also my only barbell from this stretch. Good luck.

As long as I'm getting bites that's a start. I can always try for bigger from there.
