hi Guys,

so I'm looking at fishing for pike the last time for the season on 14th March. I have previously fished uckinghall with no luck. I have read apperley has some pike in but haven't heard a lot of people fish it.. so I'm looking at the river swell. I'm fairly new to piking on the river (have over 15 years experience on lakes) so I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of a good slack water river piking location.

cheers guys!

Re: Pike Locations

Get as far away from accessable areas as possible! The rivers are being hammered by poachers and the further you can get from towns and access points the better your chances are.
With 15 years piking experience, you don't seriously expect anyone to give up specific locations do you?
You've aready mentioned the sort of features that are prime winter holding areas, so suffice to say that Google earth is your friend.

Head for Fladbury if you want to fish a river personally not caught any from the weir section but more from the bridge section or Pensham that has a fair few pike in too.

If you want a lake to fish, Mythe pool has a fair few pike in there but i been there today on lures and had no luck but had a very good session there a few weeks back.

I thought the aim on the BAA forum was to help each other? There is more than enough waters and fish to go between us all from the sounds of things you know what to look for regarding location.

Best of luck for when you go but dont forget to report back with how you have got on.

Re: Pike Locations

if rivers then the severn at birds meadow and ripple good. just fish close in . near any bush etc. i would give hour max and move up a peg.
also the lower avon, mythe farm, wood end etc . again same thou have to walk from car parks .
keep moving if you can, and keep looking for any fish movement.
some good size pike in lower avon so be prepared with nice big landing net.
all the best smiling

It is, but posting specifics of location on an open forum helps nobody if somebody reads it and drops in a bunch of setlines overnight.
A lot of people eat pike and zander and carp over 20lb can be sold for upwards of £30 a lb alive.
I have little doubt that a market exists for large live barbel, tench, catfish etc too.

Edit: I had to laugh at the post made a few days after I posted this, which questions how many carp are left in Coppice. I have zero interest in carp and would happily see them eradicated but I shall be watching the progress of that question with great interest....

Re: Pike Locations

There's not a river stretch in England that doesn't contain Pike. They are pretty much everywhere so pick a stretch (quieter the better) and stay mobile. Fish in lots of likely spots. Obviously, you'll have to wait till June but you'll enjoy them more if you can find them yourself.

Think as we have mentioned on here before Fladbury is solid for them down stream from jacks to some very nice doubles. Not many times over the last few seasons ive not had at least one show up in my peg at some point while fishing for silvers
