Can anyone recommend a quiet stretch of the Avon for chub and perhaps the odd barbel? Went to fladbury last Thursday and the mill section was so busy I had to fish on stretch below the bridge which was still busy. I am pretty new to the rivers so any advice is welcome.

Re: Quieter Avon stretch

Fladbury will quieten once the solar powered brigade leave in the Autumn, I fished it last season in Autumn and had the whole stretch to myself on many occasions. To be honest, everywhere is quieter than Fladbury at the moment, I'm avoiding it until the melee dies down.

there's lots of Avon stretches you can have to yourself that all hold chub, and most contain the odd barbel or two. Bidford RB is a nice stretch, a little bit of a long walk across a meadow ensures it doesnt get too mad there.

Trouble with the Avon in the summer is the floating Gin palaces, seems to put the fish (Barbel) off until last knockings. The Severn seems less effected though, rule of thumb is don't fish the rivers at all until the leaves turn brown.smiling

There's Marlcliffe, turn right at the sharp bend in village and follow your nose down track to the river. Easy parking. For barbel I think most blokes go downstream towards the weir, though not many pegs that way I don't think. I have had barbel from the pegs right next to the car park but usually go upstream a bit towards Bidford.

In general I fish for whatever swims past and don't target a particular species as such, and always weekdays so it is quieter. Parks Farm on the Evesham by-pass is another haunt, you do have some traffic noise depending how close to the bridge over the river you are but have the place to myself most times. Park next to river but not necessarily by your peg. BAA sign on access gate downstream side of the bridge.

Wood Norton, between Evesham and Fladbury, pretty deep here but easy parking and a short walk to the river, there is a BAA sign but the entrance is a bit concealed and easy to fly past., I usually miss it first time. Been the only one there in the past. A couple more access points between here and Fladbury but not sure what it's like, again, blink and you missed them.

Fladbury....have been twice this week, downstream of the bridge, plenty of pegs and only 3 or 4 more blokes there so not busy, virtually park behind your peg. Mainly small perch but a tench a whisker short of 4lb 8oz and a similar size bream. Quite a few boats the one day I must admit, not that it's a problem. Bidford RB was mentioned in another post , quite right it is a reasonable walk, especially if you carry loads of gear, but have had this place to myself as well .

Walked Bidford RB midweek and not a single peg was occupied. Also did Manor Farm same day and only saw 1 angler, easy access with car behind pegs which are good and spacious.

Re: Quieter Avon stretch

check out the wasperton stretch, loads of fish if you fish it proper (rove). check out my p.b last season in view images. Not had a whisker yet this season but plenty of bream, chub, dace , perch, roach, eels! good parking behind peg if conditions allow. Give it a go.

Thanks for all the replies. Will give Bidford and Marcliffe a Try. Wasperton sounds good but wrong end of the avon for me being based in Gloucestershire. Someone also mentioned Salford Prior but avoid Cleeve Prior due to a nearby traveller camp that can cause trouble.
