Hi all,
New member and not familiar with any of the waters.
I fished Severn Stoke on Sunday morning hoping to find some barbel.
Sat there for 3 hours with not a bite so moved to the St Johns section of the Teme & did well.
My question is which are the best pegs on the section for barbel ?
I have also fished Bransford 3 times now with no sign of a fish. There are only about 4 pegs that are fishable on this stretch.

No one knows....even the folk that fish it all the time.....proper hard venue, but the fish are there.

Re: Severn Stoke

Severn Stoke's never been a prolific barbel water, going back 35 years it's not been anywhere near as good as Beauchamp Court and the top and bottom of Clevelode used to be (yes obviously they were WDUAA but most people in the area had both books back then).

Used to be a fair few chub opposite the red cliffs at the top end, and some bream below the access, but like a lot of that part of the river it's just the odd very big loner barbel and not much else.

Re: Severn Stoke

Re. the original post that also mentioned Bransford - I've fished Bransford for nearly 40 years and it has definitely tailed off the last few years. Best pegs are now the deeper ones at the bottom of the stretch, there ain't a lot until the pump peg. When my club used to have the whole stretch before it got sold, divvied up and part restricted, the best pegs were the top narrow bit, barbel alley. All changed now!

Re: Severn Stoke

Some good advice from some experienced Anglers. I have only been fishing Severn Stoke for the last 11 years or so, and I can confirm it is a hard venue, but, even I have had some fabulous sport there over the years.

I have had Barbel touching 14lb, and the 'summer' of 2012 was just brilliant, with the River up all the time it was easy picking with meat in the margins. Which leads me to believe I think it does support a good head of fish, and not just Barbel, it's a big stretch and a huge piece of water for all species to thrive. No doubt a lot of bait needs to go in to keep any shoal occupied.

But the sheer variety of the place and the different pegs it offers is amazing, there are pegs that hardly ever see another angler.

The Heronry ia an old established feature too, and the gruntings and comings and goings of the Birds put a smile on my face.

To me a special place.
