Re: Walcot east lake

Sounds like you have done some good recon there mate. In your opinion do you think there are any pegs that are fishable as they are? I don't own a rake yet.

Put weed rake into Ebay there are 2 on there. The Stealth Rake looks like a good bit of kit for about £30 I might add 1 to my armory smiling

Re: Walcot east lake

check out the aspen weed rake, cracking bit of kit but expensive. the problem with a lot of rakes is they dont get down to the roots so after a couple of weeks the weeds thicker on the bottom than before raking, unless you keep the spot baited in between fishing.

Cheers for the recommendations lads, will surely get one when it's pay day, still interested to know if there are any pegs that are fishable without using a rake at the moment

Re: Walcot east lake

Why are they still renting it and not looking after it why doesnt the BAA drop it if it cant be arsed to clean it out???? Let another club sort it out? Such a lovely lake been left to die.

Re: Walcot east lake

Such ashame was really looking forward to catching some tench there. Completely agree with you there jfreeman, what's the point of having a lake if it's relatively unfishable sound like it could be a lovely lake if the baa took care of it. Maybe not completely cleaning it out but at least raking the swims to a certain degree

Re: Walcot east lake

basically the east lake (baa) is coverd in weed all the way around some pegs do look easier to rake than others, I saw fish moving I presume they were pike I might try deadbaiting there soon, the other side of the road is the west lake which is run by stone arch fisheries, they've took most of the weed out and stocked a few carp but looking on there website looks like original old specimen 20+carp and big bream so they must be in the baa lake the other side aswell surely?

Re: Walcot east lake

and the lake is huge and full of natural baits so id say if there are any carp left they would be a fair size

Re: Walcot east lake

If i was going to fish this lake i would want it as it is. Do the raking in whatever swim you want. let the fish feed on all the natural food that is within the weeds. The fish will still be there when the weed has died down and the fish will be in great shape with plenty of natural food inside them, hopefully gaining in size. If you do rake a swim surely it's more rewarding knowing if you do catch that all your work was worth it. If you want a lake that isn't weedy go to a carp puddle that is readily available to fish, just turn up set your tackle up in any swim and fish. all seems to easy to me.
