Re: Footbridges

Onelastcast, Why do you think you have any right to call a persons choice to use a barrow ridiculous ? Like I’ve said previously each to their own.
I class myself as fairly fit for an older guy but if a barrow makes my life easier I will use one, may even look out for an electric one now you mention it.
If someone spends a fortune on tackle and blanks so what - all the gear no idea springs to mind. I hope you explained to the angler with all the gear and 3 rods he should only use 2 !!

Re: Footbridges

Neil you say its all about image ? So would you say its about image when one of your fellow barbel anglers on the forum Barbel Fishing World spends up to £500/£600 on a pair of specially hand built rods ? Perhaps you should start a thread on there ''About Image'' and see what sort of reaction you get ? I can just imagine the sort of response you will get .

Re: Footbridges

To say carrying a lot of tackle is for an anglers ''image'' is a load of crap and as I said before ''weird''
Now, if an angler laid all his/her tackle out on the bank with all the price labels attached, that certainly would be for their ''image'', but that is something I have never seen in all my years of ''maggot-dangling''.
When I pass an angler on the bank, unless they told me, I would not know if they paid £1.00 or £1000 for a piece of gear and frankly, I don't care anyway.
It's their money and their choice!
I am on the wrong side of 75 with two painful hips and and a ''dodgy'' back.
The electric trolley I bought some years ago, has extended my river fishing by all of those years.
It is an absolute boon to us ''old codgers'' if we have easy access at any venue and not have to risk life and limb to get a days fishing.
Slippy, narrow footbridges are a recipe for disaster for the older members and making things easier for them insures that they stay members for longer.
Make life tough for them and as hundreds have already done, they drift towards fishing the commercials and the BAA membership goes in the wrong direction.

Re: Footbridges

For the sake of my image, I’ve Been looking into buying an electric barrow but thought it maybe a bit over the top,
and a bit difficult to get over styles and fences. Anyway decided against the electric version in favour of this bad boy - the read up says fences and styles are no problem as are other other anglers who may think it ridiculous that I use a barrow. Just hope there is enough room on board for my flask bait boat and deeper.

Oh and back to the original subject of this post, could I request the footbridges are reinforced !!

Joking apart, there seems to be a lot of posts recently slating the BAA for the apparent state of banks and pegs, as a pleasure angler I wouldn’t have it any other way, but each to their own.

Back to my new barrow, think I will need a 4x4 and trailer now to get it to my favoured venue -maybe not such a good idea, hope I can get a refund

Re: Footbridges

Well Paul that would solve the problem of loose feeding.
Such sensitive souls on here, it was a bit of banter, not meant to upset anyone to the point that they have to examine there own decisions in using the things.
Personally if had to adapt a disability scooter with a trailer to fish, I would. Only read a bit of one post to see where it was going, at least it wakes up the sleepy forum eh?

Re: Footbridges

On a serious note, anything that enables anyone to get around easier, be it fishing or otherwise is a good thing.

Re: Footbridges

Its easy to make fun or make jokes .To ridicule, mock and deride some one who may be disabled and who needs to use a barrow or a trolley to be able to move there kit about the bank .
Neil you say its just banter and sensitive souls ? Try saying that to the person who may be disabled or have a age related problem with there mobility when you come to face to face with that person and see what kind of response you get ? Maybe one day in the future you may be in need of a trolley or a barrow and lets see how you feel when some one makes a joke about you

Re: Footbridges

One last bleeding cast, to call your previous comments on the subject of "image" / trolleys / barrows and the like as banter and just a joke is a pathetic excuse to try and rescue your already rock bottom standing as a contributor to these forums. Take a long break and do us all a favour.
