Re: Gravel Quarry near Manor Farm

Smith's application is for a maximum of 200,000 tonnes per year and working a max of 61 hours per week. That would be a maximum AVERAGE of 63.052 tonnes per hour per year, therefore a THEORETICAL 3 to 4 X 20 tonne lorries leaving the site each hour and 3 to 4 returning to site with or without inert landfill.

The effects of destroying sand/gravel deposits alongside river catchments is well known they being a natural 'sponge' for slowly releasing filtered rain/flood/alluvial water back into a river helping to dilute pollution density. Gravel and sand quarrying that started in desperate total war senario of WW2 did not care much about the environment and carried on in the 50/60'. Unfortunately the Wasperton gravel beds and prime agricultural land was destroyed but that does not have to set a precedent for the future. (Prime land that has farmed for over 2000 years)

Various organisations such as The Angling Trust and the Envionmental Agency encourage volunteers to survey water quality and biodiversity in aquatic life. Perhaps you would like to help the Barfords residents group with your expertise. and knowledge.

n.b.Thelsford brook is not the only stream running into the Avon from the proposed quarry site but also two noted ditches upstream of Manor Farm

Re: Gravel Quarry near Manor Farm

If your information on Smiths application is correct, maybe someone should have a word with the Barford Residents Assoc regarding the scare mongering fasle information they have posted along the A429 between Barford and Wasperton.
Two noted ditches? Used to be one entered the Avon just below the Forge Cottage. The other,in the many decades I've been walking the said stretch of river I have never stumbled across(or into)it.

In reply to Baldyman.
The 'facts and figures ' are available, I will tell you how I know (interpretation of numbers can of
course be made in many different ways). I was sitting on the bank on Monday morning at Manor
dangling the pole over the river in the hope I might catch a sprat or two. When I noticed half a dozen
of those nasty black Auks in some trees opposite, some way downstream, munching their fishy
breakfast. Anyway I carried on in the hope that they and the furry gremlins had left a fish for me to
catch. Suddenly I heard a rustle behind me it was a large fairy, I said 'what do you want ? I do not like
fairies'. It replied 'What are you doing?' I said 'I am drowning a maggot , now go away'. It replied 'No
need to be like that' and pranced off in a cloud of dust taking it's little four legged friend Stinkerbell
with it. I thought thank goodness for that and had half an hour quiet when all of a sudden there was
a dip on the float, blast, no peace for the wicked.
I lifted up the pole and there on the end of the line was a Goblin. For goodness sake, now what (pun)
and brought the wet being onto the bank. 'Thank you' said the Goblin, 'I nearly drowned'. 'What
were you doing in the river?' I asked. It replied 'I had to hide quickly from those horrible Auks, my
name is Gobby. Can I grant you a wish?' I said 'I would like to catch some fish and have some peace
and quiet. Now please leave me alone and go home'. 'Well I cannot go home,' it said' because
someone has stolen my ditch and some nasty beings are going to dig up my grotto on the other side
of the road'. 'So you live in the proposed quarry site on the other side of the road, how do you know
about it?' I asked. 'Well it is that horrible dwarf called Smithy causing the trouble and his friends the
Water Closet Clowns. He has 62 scrolls in the Shire Hall planning department which anybody who
wants to, can read'

Re: Gravel Quarry near Manor Farm

Whatnow, you missed the point of my last post. I questioned what the BRA are displaying on their notices along the A429 between Wellesbourne and Barford. I am aware of the Smiths application document, will I read it ? No.(has anyone read all 60 plus pages ?)
Am I concerned about the gravel quarry going ahead? Absolutely not,I really couldn't care less either way,the two previous gravel quarries in the area didn't have an adverse effect on the local area I can't envisage this one impacting lives too much. As for the loss of farm land being a major issue(mentioned in an earlier post)have a look around at all the new housing developments in the Leamington/Stratford area being built on agricultural land.
As for your attempt to belittle me. Content 1/10,effort(obviously spent some time on it)3/10. Must try harder.
