Just had a glance at my latest post on the lost rod bag, 40odd looks no response, then looked down the page at other threads...plenty of looks but no one can be bothered to comment, well almost....about 1 in 400, what is the point of having a forum if no one can be bothered to say anything?

Re: Lurkers!!

this is very true, even people i speak to out fishing say they look but thats it.
i think a big point is lack of input from the baa them self.
the home page photos, the comment about parking at ship inn to name a few.
onelastcast posts are good to read, make the site worth looking at, as a few other lads are.
look at currys post about bewdley festival. great read and took bit of time to do smiling
i love reading other peoples catches n even losses.

Re: Lurkers!!

I would guess that 99.9% of the membership were nowhere near Nafford last week so what are they supposed to come on here and say?

I was nowhere near Nafford and have not come across said rod bag anywhere else either. Hope this helps.

Re: Lurkers!!

I wouldn't get too up tight about it, the fact that so many people keep looking would indicate they are interested in what is posted. I post my own twopenny worth from time to time but I don't necessarily expect a comment back, and sometimes comment on other peoples posts but a lack of replies doesn't necessarily mean someone else's post has no merit or interest.

It's unlikely I would reply to a post about the Severn for instance because I never fish it and probably wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about [ which is probably true most of the time for me] but the Avon I do have more knowledge and just may have something useful to say. Keep posting everyone be it a gripe a compliment, just banter or to get it off your chest, I for one read the forums most nights, including the match results for anything new. smiling .

Re: Lurkers!!

Its the same as all forums plenty of views but not much input from people that's just the way it is at the end of the day its our members forum and up to us to post. To be fair its more lively now than it was in the early days. Everyone wants to know where they can go and bag up, but you cant blame those who have had a few good sessions somewhere not letting on, as next thing you know you cant get a peg.

Re: Lurkers!!

Thanks for the replies, even the one that was less than helpful, I didn't really expect a good outcome but it was worth a shot....as far as Nafford is concerned there are some nice Silver Bream showing, thought I had a clonking Roach the other day...but it was a Silver. Barbel not evident yet, mind you it's a real struggle down there last few seasons....and the car park must be cursed, had a
note pinned by the bailiff threatening to remove my car for illegal parking, BAA HQ sent me a free sticker, so heads up on that one. And yesterday exiting the cursed car park...I had a puncture, but no spare!! But I did have one of those aerosol things that seal the puncture, it worked and got me home, all of 20 mph Ha!

Oh! and just one clonking Chub saved the blank, added to Tuesday's two big chub from Pershore, that did a fine impression of Barbel.grin

Re: Lurkers!!

These forums will only work if people contribute. There are a lot of subjects that we can discuss other than the best swims to fish. Tactics, tackle, river conditions are all subjects that spring to mind.

The more people chipping the more interesting and lively the forum provided we can avoid name calling and feuds.

Re: Lurkers!!

There's a real opportunity being missed by the BAA themselves to engage and answer queries but they too appear to be lurkers.

Re: Lurkers!!

Don't know how but i've only just found this lurkers thread despite lurking around a bit lol. On most forums the latest post will bump a thread to the top of the page but on here it doesn't, maybe that doesn't help.

Regarding the official replies from the BAA I've always found that someone has always responded to a query very promptly and been helpful in replying out any issues I have raised, I would assume they can't answer everything so are we being unfair to criticise them?

Re: Lurkers!!

It's a BAA forum so it wouldn't seem unreasonable for them to have a presence on here imo.

Re: Lurkers!!

Hornets point about the latest reply bumping a thread to the top of the list is a good one. If someone hasn't looked in for a few days it's easy to miss a post that might be interesting under the current system.

I'm no expert but I think it is something to do with the basic architecture of the boards, I've no idea if it would be easy for BAA to change but I suspect it might be difficult. BAA are only going to invest in these boards if they are active and drive membership.

Re: Lurkers!!

Also new members posting on an old thread may not even get a reply at all and think we're a right unhelpful bunch as that thread could well stay off the top.

I wonder if we keep bumping this it will stay on the fist page? wink
