M&W Gone Fishing is a delightful series which captures the essence of why so many of us choose to spend time by the river, canal or lake. A respected late friend of mine and fellow club member used to explain that 'you go fishing to catch fish' which although stating the obvious actually misses the point for me. Whilst I do go to catch fish it also allows me to explore the wonders of nature in dramatic habitats and if you are prepared to look, watch and see, presents you with a myriad of wonderful sights and experiences that are everywhere in nature and none more so than close to water. To share this with a good friend and also to catch some fish is as good an experience as you can have and M&W through their enduring friendship through trials and adversity as well as good times, capture this perfectly.

I find the series just 'ok' to be honest, i think more non-anglers like it that actual anglers. For me, the finest ever series was a Passion for Angling back in 90/91. That series was magical, and really did capture the essence of being an angler. Catching the Impossible was also very good.

Its just about two friends enjoying each others company and having a laugh . Its not about the fishing . Two mates spending time together . Its so funny at times .

Re: Mortimer and Whitehouse, Gone fishing .

Good Morning fellow d’anglers,
Thanks RiverNovice for alerting me to the lates series of Mortimer & Whitehouse, Gone Fishing.

Having read how Paul and Bob came up with the original idea for a one series of fishing programmes based on two friends spending time together on a riverbank following heart surgery, in their pursuit of a common interest, Fishing!

So from a single series we are now watching series number four!
As two successful Entertainers, what a great Gig they have now.

Last night was such a beautiful spectacle for the viewer, many millions never having held a fishing rod, filled with humour and as we witnessed the pure frustration of Paul seeing Bob doing it wrong, when we as anglers know how it was meant to be done.

What makes it compelling viewing for me is how careful both Bob and Paul are in the catching, handling and the release of the fish, with the underwater filming the fish swimming happily away.

What is also very informative is the other important element of overcoming and living after the heart surgery, a better diet, cooking and eating well, all cleverly incorporated to make this a much watch program for everyone to enjoy

Keep on Fishing
