jim gibbonson quotes :: in waters that hold reasonable head tench an very few carp , tench can hold there own . in waters were reverse applies , chances are tench population will decline to the point it disappears .
yes there are a few waters at present , seem to offer good fishing for both species . but those waters I believe are in transmission . within a tench generation or two , I predict the tench will just become a memory .
iv encountered a number off waters were anglers say , this used to be a good tench water , but we just don't see them any more .
you can have a good carp water with few tench . or a good tench water with few carp .

but you cant have good for both species ,because tench an carp they both compete for food supplies , spawning grounds , an nursery areas .
an when ever carp an tench are in competition there only be one winner : THE CARP !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: quote from tinca tenchfishers book

I'm late replying to this.

I've no idea where you are based but until a couple of years ago I was in Sussex where there are a lot of waters with tench and carp where both do well. It's a good job because I love tench fishing and nearly every water is now stocked with carp.

If you are after exceptionally large tench you stand more chance in a water without carp competing for food but up to say 9-10lb you should be ok in a mixed fishery.

My main problem with tench fishing in waters with big carp is that I'm forced to fish with heavier tackle than I'd really like to avoid getting smashed by carp. Tench on an avon rod and 6lb line can be great fun but on a carp rod and 12lb it's a different story.
