Well great weather today, no rain, no wind no frost .... bearing in mind the rain over the last week shocked to see the river is still unnaturally clearer than gin. We were lucky enough to fish the venue about 3 weeks ago when the temperature exceeded 30deg C ... Only difference today was a little more flow down the centre of the river. Several Pike enjoyed the clear conditions with strikes on chublets, skimmers even perch with large pike showing amazing speed and accuracy of strike on hooked fish reeled in at pace. Our winner today was Evesham top angler Gary Seadon making the most of his peg 2 down from the bridge just above the car park with a winning 9lb catch of roach, dace, perch and smalll chub to stick float / bolo float fished maggots in the fairly turbulent but crystal clear water about 11/2 to 2 rods out. 2nd at the opposite end of the length about 5 pegs below the far bank empty mooring spots was Browning West Midlands star Chris Ballard , fishing a waggler with maggots past the pulling mid river flow catching 5lb 13ounces and suffering excessive pike attacks, effectively costing him the match. Back up to the bridge peg 1 Rod Turner managed 3lb 15ounces of small fish again to stick float and maggot, just holding off Dennis Evans 3lb 8ounces from the peg above Chris Ballard. Others troubling the scales were Mike Adams catching perch remarkably close in considering the clarity of the water 1llb 10oz, Kev Downton with 14 ounces having the misfortune to lose one of the substantial barbel that inhabit the venue. Understand why this is one of the most popular BAA venues. Lots of fish and relatively comfortable walks ... but oh when is the Avon going to get some colour ... if only to curtal the pike. If you are into Pike the venues got to be worth a visit under current conditions and they look big double figure but agile fish !!!

Thanks Mike
For a very well summarised review of your contest.

Top 6 for just over 24lb of fish, a good return
in challenging conditions, made worse by the marauding Pike!

But what might THAT Barbel have weighed?

That is the magic that makes us d’anglers

Keep on Fishing…
