Well hottest day of the year and a very very clear Warwickshire Avon, conditions we've encountered a couple of times in the past and returned good results. Today it seemed any fish under 2 ounces just had to eat something, be it bleak, chublet, bottletop bream, mini dace or gudgeon. The results have suggested even in today's conditions a number of the big fish that inhabit the venue had to have a bite. A few large fish were lost but a couple of large bream were caught which effectively sorted 1st and 2nd.
1st Dennis Evans . Peg 3 on the day . 1st peg below gate from car park. First four hours spent on the waggler to an extent bitted out with bleak, chublets and tiny dace. With an hour to go decided a change was required, sending a small maggot feeder to the far bank feature resulted in a roach first chuck, a perch second chuck and a game changing 4lb bream and a winning 8lb 1oz total .
2nd Alan Henson 4 pegs down from the winner towards the bottom of the far bank moorings started with waggler and maggot, a switch to bolo float continued with small fish before deciding again a bonus was required resulting in a 31/2 bream to open ended small feeder red maggot bait and a total of 6lb 4oz.
3rd Russell Millward pegged opposite the concrete hole in the wall, decided to use a whip and pinkie approach to weigh 3lb7oz best weight without a bonus fish.
4th Rod Turner 1st peg past the far bank boat mooring 3lb 4oz of chublets, bleak micro dace on waggler and stick floated maggot.
5th Kev Downton 1st peg below bridge with a close 3lb 1oz of tiny fish
6th Mike Salcumbe 3 pegs below carpark 2lb 11oz micro waggler fish
The remaining competitors were wise enough to return their catches, enjoy the sun and watch the footie and rugby. Superb venue under cooler conditions full of fish including some specimens that certainly need some time to target and most importantly get out with reasonable tackle even in such clear water conditions
